Posted: 1/9/15 at 5:49pmOMG! The Rodgers is a cursed theatre! It's because of the Rodgers that If/Then, Romeo and Juliet, The Gershwin's Porgy & Bess, Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo, Tarzan, 45 Seconds from Broadway, Seussical, Footloose, Side Show and Steel Pier didn't have profitable runs!

Posted: 1/9/15 at 5:50pmThere were some awkward places and missed opportunities, but I still really enjoyed it, and it definitely lent itself to my analytical background since I wasn't interested in any 'song and dance' nor period show. At least I have the OBCR.

Pretty much what everyone else said. This show is great, but I'm not surprised. Saw it on my third NYC trip and it was first show of the trip (5th Broadway overall) and it truly was amazing and one of the first times a Broadway show really hit me as BROADWAY and not a production as good as the tour. Yes, of course Idina was amazing, but the whole cast was just great and there was not a weak link. I'm very sad that it will not recoup and have a life beyond Idina. Thanks If/Then for the amazing experience.

No, that's what partially means.
I thought the show was passable, but it really needed the bite that Next to Normal was given, and as a result was just kind of a flat evening at the theatre. I did enjoy a lot of the music, though, even though the lyrics were some of Broadway's worst.

Posted: 1/9/15 at 7:00pmSad to see it go, but it had a good run. I wasn't a fan of the storyline at all, but I still find myself enjoying the music. I'm a big Idina fan, so the show was a very exiting experience for me. It was one of the first times I actually "stage doored" a show and got Idina's signature. The cast really grew on me and I wish them all the best.

Were you wearing Depends, one hopes?
#37If/Then is closing
Posted: 1/9/15 at 7:41pmlol no Depends needed. I'm a big fan, but respectful. I should have offered some to the group behind me who kept screaming YASSS YOU GOT THIS, IDINA every time she finished a song. The stage door was like feeding time at the zoo.

Again. Very sad this show is closing. Loved it. Glad I got to see Idina, Jackie, and Jenn as Elizabeth. (Jenn may have been my favorite
after Idina, of course)

Well, you're the one who said the show was very EXITING for you. I mean, if it was merely exciting, that would be a different thing...

Lol, if you invest 10 bucks on something and get 5 back, you are not "pretty good". You lost your money.
Forgive me if I refer this way about this ol' floperoo!

I like the show, like the score very much, and thought the Menzel performance under-appreciated. It's a big sing, and she acquits herself beautifully. I'm going back with an out of town guest this next week. Curious to see it 11 months later, to see how it's holding up and what differences have crept into all of the performances. In today's market, 430 performances is damned good. "Flop?" Oh yeah, the money thing, well, yeah, that's a flop, I certainly get it. Still, a year is impressive, and Menzel's commitment to a year on Broadway is a good thing for Broadway. So much is said at this and other boards about "theater stars" vs. those who come in for 4-5 months and retreat. Menzel is a theater star, she played WICKED 18 months, and sticking with this show for its entire run certainly proves her loyalty and earned street cred as a Broadway star.

Posted: 1/9/15 at 9:08pmMenzel is incredible in this show. She deserves every single ounce of praise...and then some! Better yet, the entire cast deserves praise. What an immensely talented cast (and creative team).

Well, someone fails at math.
Anyway, was Menzel's performance really under-appreciated? She did get a Tony nom after all...

And? It's a loss. I hope whoever said that a loss it's still "pretty good" never goes on Shark Tank.

She was barely acknowledged in the Times ("shiny voiced" -- what does that mean? As opposed to dull-voiced?) And her acting is never, ever, acknowledged. She's treated like a money-note robot. And even if you agree with that assessment -- and many of you do, I get it -- it's not quite what's happening 8 times a week in this demanding role. It just isn't.
Yeah, I stand by under-appreciated. Everyone thinks she's only about making people scream when she blasts some high (fill in the blank) with her chest voice. I think she's very soulful, and I still find her acting real and emotionally accessible. And I like that she has honest sexuality in all her work. She looks -- I can't use the word here, and it's sexist anyway -- but she looks like she enjoys the reaction she engenders.
