Say you had the power of granting one performance/technical aspect/production with a Tony in their respective category this year...who/what would it be and why?
I'd have to say I would grant Mary McCormack the Best Featured Actress in a Play Tony because she was the one thing from BOEING-BOEING that made me jump out of my seat with excitement. And because she is simply the most award-worthy aspect of that production.

Best Featured Actor in a MusicalDaniel Breaker, in his incredible portrayal of Youth, in the musical PASSING STRANGE.
Amy Morton- Best Actress in a Play for her work in August: Osage County.
Best Revival of a Musical for Sunday in the Park with George. It's a gorgeous production and the best thing I've seen on stage in years. Also, the award used to be given to the most innovative production of a revival, and from what I've seen and read I definitely think that Sunday is the most innovative.

I've been saying this over and over, but -
Jenna Russell for leading actress in a musical.
Her Dot is stunning. I cried more than once during the performance. I couldn't speak afterwords, SITPWG is so beautiful and she gives the respect it is due.
Anyone can tell through seeing her performance that SITPWG really means something to her, and it makes her Dot all the more real.
Don't Shoot me but I still say the trio (Lupone,Benanti,Gaines) Have all three of them have truly strong performances in the own respected roles. So I think they deserve it. I think Laura Deserves he second tony because her transformation is just astounding through out it. Patti cause she gives a truly solid performance. Also Gaines because he captures the true essence of Herbie. Please don't kill me.
If it can be something that was eligible but not nominated, then I'd give Rupert Goold best direction of a play for 'Macbeth'.
If it has to be something that was nominated, then I'd give best musical to 'Xanadu'. YES IT CAN.
I agree with the trio of Gypsy but if I could only gurentee one of them to win as much as I love Lupone and idolize her Id say I would gurentee that Benanti wins. From the moment she says Im a pretty girl mama into the strip she transforms into a confident beautiful woman. This 9 minutes on stage is like watching a master class in character transformation she is incredible and I think she deserves that award. And since I think Patti can win without my help id give Benanti the extra push.
I'm speaking for another here. I hope that's all right. I just think it could spur an interesting discussion.
A teacher of mine saw IN THE HEIGHTS and GYPSY on the same day. When he and I talked about the shows, he believes that Olga Merediz should take the Tony over Laura Benanti.
Personally, I'm one (of very few) who really didn't enjoy Laura's performance. I thought it was very overdone, and I disagree with the Strip being a master of character transformation. The first strip was funny. She was uncomfortable and worked through it, and I actually loved it. But, after the first one, it didn't go ANYWHERE. I found some of her "awkwardness" stretched into slapstick. Maybe I saw her on a really off day because I've read nothing but praise for her on these boards. She didn't sound fantastic on "Little Lamb", so maybe she was sick. But, based on the performance I saw, I don't think she's a lock.
After thinking about it, I might also push for Kelli O'Hara to win. Brilliant, stunning, and powerful performance. But I stick by my original choice.

Please don't shoot me for this, BUT... Little Mermaid for Best Score.
i Agree with you. I think the score of mermaid is beautiful...so they will have to kill us together.
I was expecting all the theatre queens to scream "Patti".
But I guess they'll do that later.
Along with the LuPwning references.
For me, I'd go with Lin-Manuel Miranda for Best Score for In the Heights. One of the freshest, most captivating shows I've seen in years, with a beautiful score that ties it all together.
I wouldn't mind him for Best Actor, too.

Patti LuPone.

Other than Mermaid (which deserves to win atleast ONE award), I'd totally love to see Kerry take the Lead Actress Award from Patti, as Kerry is long deserved of one.
I think Lin in Score common he worked seven years on this!
Good question.
For me, it's gotta be something from SUNDAY.
I'd say best revival, but I haven't seen South Pacific yet (seeing it Tony Sunday), so I'll reserve judgment until then.
I'd say Jenna Russel, but Patti is so good I can't take it away from Patti.
So I'm going to go with Daniel Evans. George is one of the most, if not the most challenging lead male role right now, and Daniel approaches it with grace, intensity, and beauty.
Kelli O'Hara
Xanadu for best musical. I love when the little shows win. I think it helps give hope to all those out their working on their dreams.
Robin De Jesus winning would make my night. He is truly amazing in the role of Sonny!
It's a really close call for me between Daniel Evans for Leading Actor in a Musical and In the Heights for Best Musical.
SUNDAY FOR EVERYTHING! pure brilliance.
theatrekid - I hated Benanti's performance but she's probably going to win it.
I suppose I'd say the GYPSY trio, but since they're favored to win (mostly), I'd really like to see Daniel Evans. He gave a really lovely performance in SUNDAY.
