Posted: 8/30/06 at 12:44pmMame deserves a better treatment than it received in the Lucille Ball movie. How about a TV movie of Mame, with Megan Mullally as Mame and Harriet Harris as Vera?

Posted: 8/30/06 at 12:49pmMadBrian, that is a BRILLIANT and economical idea. Megan has huge TV appeal and it would be a huge hit, espcially around the holidays. We need to make that happen.

I would like to see Disney do Aida.

There are so many musicals that don't have a movie version, and I think once a show ends it should have a movie version produced to allow future audiences to witness at least the basic idea of the show. For instance I know West Side Story is very diffrent from the stage show, and doesn't necessarily capture everything, but since I was never able to see a production of it on Broadway, at least I was able to see the movie which gave me an idea of the show.
I definately want to see Ragtime, Aida, Miss Saigon and City of Angels (which I think would transfer really well to film).

Ragtime
Into the Woods
Aida (can't decide wether I would want it animated or not)
I also think Last 5 Years and tick...tick...BOOM! would make cute indie flicks.

Hmm... you know even though I think her (Megan Mullalay) new show will tank and I think Megan would be awesome. Heck she would be soooo funny for Sweeney.

Posted: 8/30/06 at 2:27pmCARNIVAL, for sure; and, I'd turn RAGTIME into a 2-part made for television film.

Posted: 8/30/06 at 2:47pmRagtime would be great on HBO or PBS. Definetly something that could be shown in schools. It's a damn shame about that show.

Posted: 8/30/06 at 2:51pmI'd love to see Piazza, even though it would make like 3 dollars in the box office.

Wasn't there already a boring movie? I really do not understand that Piazza. I felt like that main character during the whole show. So confused and cheated.

I really think "Into The Woods" needs to be made into a movie, there is enough in the story that can be expanded into a really good movie.
#18re: If You Could Turn A Musical Into A Movie...
Posted: 8/30/06 at 3:10pmWoods, is a bit too long to force into a film I think. It would be great as one of those epic TV mini-series by Hallmark. At least they wouldn't have to trim it. I would really like to see it being done in the woods. Even better would be stop-motion, by way of Nightmare and Corpse Bride.

Posted: 8/30/06 at 3:47pmDirty Rotten Scoundrels definitely. I finally watched the original movie a few days ago, which was pretty good, but I think the musical is much funnier and would be able to translate to film.

*The stage musical SUNSET BOULEVARD ( even if there was already a film noir classic on which the musical was based)
*THE BOY FROM OZ - the producers have already mentioned some tentative plans...maybe?
*LES MISERABLES - even if there had already been several non-musical versions - a sweeping epic and musical drama.
*PASSION, even if there is already a filmed version of the stage musical - dramatic plot and score.
*THE WOMAN IN WHITE - it deserves another viewing, maybe on the large screen.

JERSEY BOYS- i think it'd be good because there have been a lot of successful biographical movies about singers lately, so it'd do well
WICKED- hey, its WICKED! elphaba could actually fly instead of standing on a platform or something! just a lot of good special effects could be used, and it would be highly successful
LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA- as someone said, it probably wouldnt do that well, but maybe it could be a TV movie or something
AIDA- it really could turn out great as a live-action movie, and it really is a great story
SWEET CHARITY- make a newer version, maybe with Christina, and just make it cool. like "big spender" could be a really hot scene if they mix the dancing and a mini-scene...i dont know, sounds like a good movie to me!
ive already imagined most of these in my head, btw...

I think Aida could work very well if done in 2-D animation. I was just imagining how the first few scenes in my mind the other day could work.
I also think that a movie version of Follies could be amazing if handled by the right people. If they got older movie musical actors of the '50's and '60's (Debbie Reynolds, Rita Moreno, etc.) to play some of the leads, I think it would be perfect casting.
