...a one-(wo)man show in the style of ELAINE STRITCH AT LIBERTY: an autobiographical show with songs and reminences. EDIT: Adding an age limit: at least 50 years old.

I pick Julie Andrews. We all know her chords are gone because of the surgery, but even if she sounds bad and off-key, would anyone really care? It's Julie f*cking Andrews!!

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I don't know if I would say she should do a woman one retrospective like Elaine, Chita or Bea, but in terms of Broadway singers who should most do a club gig, I'd say Donna Murphy. She's probably also most deserving of a solo cd.

Audra McDonald...haven't seen her in concert yet (*hides in the corner in shame) maybe hers are like this...hopefully one day I'll find out.

Michael Arden
Steven Pasquale
Julia Murney

Sherie Rene Scott I bet would be a lot of fun too

If she were still alive, I'd have loved to see a one-woman show with Anita Morris. She'd have a lot of stories to tell about Seesaw (it'd be nice to know more about the Grove Dale v. Michael Bennett issue, especially since she was Dale's wife), and she could've told so many stories about working with Tommy Tune, Raul Julia, and the women of Nine. OK, well, we can't revive Ms.Morris so I'd pay to see the one-woman shows of Carole Bishop, Priscilla Lopez, Bernadette Peters, and Ann Reinking.
EDIT: A one-woman show with Donna Murphy would be ideal as well. And Tommy Tune has done some before but he should definitely come back to Broadway with his own show a la Stritch. Updated On: 7/24/06 at 10:24 PM

Gwen Verdon. Shame she's gone. Far more worthy of a one woman show that most of these people.

I agree about Gwen Verdon, however, probably the only person alive who can tell the most captivating stories about her and Mr.Fosse is Ann Reinking. That's why I'd like her to do a show like At Liberty.
Also, add Liliane Montevecchi to my list.

Mary Testa. Case closed.

Kristin Chenoweth? Michael Arden? Audra Macdonald? Are you kidding me? THEY ARE TOO YOUNG!!

I'm now setting a limit. They must be at least 50 years old - which is still young.

Hands down, Idina Menzel. Her concerts are a great mix of cabaret and rock music, and they never fail to make me cry and laugh multiple times. Despite the fact that she's rather young, she has a lot of great stories to tell and a lot of brilliant music to play. I wish she would bring her show to NY for a short run.

I would KILL to see Lansbury. And then put my victims into pies. What about Carol Channing? She's quite the marvelous presence.

God, give Idina another 20/30 years before a show.

As of now her show would consist of

I made my debut in Rent, lost the Tony
Made an album, got dropped from the label
Did Aida
Then did Wicked! Won a Tony, and a bunch of screaming fans
Reprised the role in London
Now working on my new album

Please.

"I'm now setting a limit. They must be at least 50 years old - which is still young."

Are we talking about a one person show where someone recounts their life story on stage a la Elaine Stritch and Chita Rivera, or a simple concert-like act where a performer sings a few songs and tells a story or two? There's a BIG difference.

Either way, Mary Testa is 51, so my choice stands.

I think we're talking about a solo show where a LEGENDARY performer shares stories from their amazing career, and performs numbers from their shows. Like Elaine and Chita.

Not just a concert with stories. Menzel and the others is fine for that.

You know FoscaDream, that would be amazing for Reinking to have her own show. Since she is such a VERY VERY VERY close living link to Fosse & Verdon. She also has had quite an accomplished career, in performing, choreographing/directing, movies, etc.

BUT sadly, I just don't think she would be a draw for many people to see.

I personally would love for her to perform in some more shows, and then several years down the road work on her own show.

As for older, I really would have to say Donna McKechnie or Ben Vereen.

As usual, the expected obnoxious "holier than thou" comment from ljay, who wouldn't have a clue as to what Idina Menzel's show would consist of since he's never seen it. I HAVE seen it, and happen to love it, and wish she would bring it to NY for a few performances.

If you're talking about something like what Chita did recently; no, it's nothing like that. But it's a bit too far removed from a simple concert, so I thought I'd mention it.
