BroadwayGirl, the original poster was talking about a one-(wo)man show where the actor has had an actual career with some longevity, merits, and yes enough drama to make the show interesting (I insist one of the reasons Chita's show failed was because it didn't have all the meaty theater gossip that Elaine Stritch's had). Like Ljay said, what would Idina Menzel show consist of? A couple of anecdotes about the few shows she has done and that's it. The people mentioned here are performers who have worked with some of the finest Broadway performers, directors, writers, choreographers, and producers, people who are a link to theater history, and I'm sorry to disappoint you but Menzel is hardly that.
And even if it was a cabaret act, I rather see someone like Donna Murphy, Mary Testa, or Sherie Rene Scott before Idina Menzel.

Yes, there was some grey area with the original question, and I see now her show wouldn't fit in the sense that I think the original post intended. It's far more of a personal show than one recounting professional experiences in now legendary classics. It was more his attitude that I took issue with.

I do have to say though Menzel puts on a hell of a show. She also is very personal and I think she's great. I'm not a big Wicked fan or anything but I'm a fan of her from her more SWIWS and love her solo stuff. She's a great performer and hope she does more after she's done in london

Bruce Vilanch-
The Edna Diaries.
Just kidding.
But, how about Betty Boop?
Written by Bruce Vilanch.
LOL.
Actually, I would see anything written by Vilanch.
A ONE MAN SHOW like Here's Bruce.
Westbeth needs to bring him back.
BRUCE VILANCH, DARLING.

Posted: 7/25/06 at 3:29amI really think Carol Burnett would be a huge hit. She has had an incredible life, both on and off the stage. Her stories would make a fine show.

What would sell:
Bette Midler- The Divine One. The ticket sales would be incredible.
Madonna- First Person. Can you imagine the sales. Every Gay from all over the World would fly in. Just be prepared to sweat, no AIR CONDITIONING.
MADONNA- I can see it now. Madonna broken out into every phase of her career:
Act 1- Like a Virgin
Act 2- Borderline
Act 3- Sex and Scary Chain phase
Act 4- Erotica

Posted: 7/25/06 at 8:19amJulie Andrews, Angela Lansbury, and Carol Burnett may be too nice for the job. Stritch set the bar very high with 'At Liberty', and audiences will expect more than a Bea Arthur type show. How about Betty Buckley?

I'd love to see Seth Rudetsky do something like this.
No doubt he'd have some fun stories of the divas to share...

Every Gay from all over the World would fly in.
Corester, what an absolutely pathetic stereotype you are reinforcing. How would you like it if someone said that "Every Jew from all over the world" would fly in to see Jackie Mason? First of all, you are assuming that every "gay" (when did that word become a noun?) is a Madonna fan and that they would all drop what they are doing to see her in a one woman show?
Secondly, I hate to be the one to break this to you, but, and are you sitting down?...Betty Boop is NOT A REAL PERSON!

He did such a hilarious segment last night at the NYCLU's event about Barbara Striesand and Bea Arthur. It was hilarious!

Posted: 7/25/06 at 5:59pmi think donna lynne champlin should. The woman is practically a comedic genius. If you saw her "finishing the hat" at ars novia you'd agree.

Idina Menzel. The woman's HILARIOUS.
I know hating her is the cool thing to do these days, but I very much disagree.
"The people mentioned here are performers who have worked with some of the finest Broadway performers, directors, writers, choreographers, and producers, people who are a link to theater history, and I'm sorry to disappoint you but Menzel is hardly that."
HAHAHAHA. That's why Eden was mentioned and no one had a nasty post to say about that, right?

Posted: 7/25/06 at 8:21pmEden Espinoza, Lisa Brescia, Jenniffer Hope Wills, and Kristin Chenoweth don't qualify either. The original poster specified that the performer in question should be over fifty and that show should be in the style of At Liberty (probably you don't know about this show since it starred a woman who didn't have to wear green make up to become a theater legend, Ms.Elaine Stritch). Unfortunately, people like Menzel, Chenoweth, and Espinoza have just not had the experience and careers that some of the legends mentioned by some of us have. It's that simple.
