Say you had the final say in ONE Tony winner. Whether or not you think they're going to win is not the point; because no matter how much of a lock you may think they are, you really never know. And, conversely, you could pick someone/something you think has no chance of winning or even being nominated.
What ONE (or more than one if it's hard to pick just one) Tony-winner(s) would you pick from this season and why? For any category.

I'd go N2N for Best Musical since, of my personal picks, its the least likely.
I just almost replied to this with like four separate things, but every time I typed something, I went, "Wait, no," and changed it. After changing my mind all those times within about three seconds, decided it was too hard to choose. The answer I came closest to posting would probably surprise a lot of people.
Post them all, Em! Or the one you came closest to choosing...I'm curious now haha.

Karen Olivo for Best Featured Actress in a Musical.
It's sort of the only award I care about this year. I think she deserves it, despite her dancing she is a fantastic Anita. Her voice and acting soar and move the audience. Plus her dancing isn't even that bad.

I know I'm going to be crucified by this, but whatever:
[title of show] for Best Book.

Next to Normal for Best Musical, for sure.
It's a teensy original musical about mental illness, with no super big names to speak of, and it could really really benefit from winning. Most of the time I don't care THAT much about Tonys just because.. they're just awards. Nice to have, but it doesn't really mean all that much if a person or show does or doesn't have one.
But in this particular case for NtN, winning the Tony could actually affect how successful the show is. And that's why I care.
Not gonna happen but if I had the power to pick someone, it'd be Jayne Atkinson for stealing the show right from under Ebersole in BLITHE SPIRIT. Lauren Ambrose as featured actress in a play was a close second.
Post them all, Em! Or the one you came closest to choosing...I'm curious now haha.
Equus for best revival.
(Esparza, Speed-the-Plow, Hair were the other ones. I think people would have expected me to say Esparza, no second thoughts, but... if he's going to get a Tony, I want it to be for something that was as stunning as Company.)

If I could pick the Tony winners in each category (cause 1 is never enough)...
Musical: Billy Elliot
Revival: Hair
Actor: David Alvarez, Kiril Kulish, Trent Kowalik, Billy Elliot
Actress: Alice Ripley, Next to Normal
Featured Actor: Mitchell Jarvis, Rock of Ages
Featured Actress: Haydn Gwynne, Billy Elliot
Play: God of Carnage
Revival of a Play: Exit the King
Actor: Geoffrey Rush, Exit the King
Actress: Jane Fonda, 33 Variations
Featured Actor: Paul Ritter, The Norman Conquests
Featured Actress: Lily Rabe, The American Plan
Diane Paulus for Director of a Musical.
Two reasons:
1. Translating what a lot of people said was a show too dated to work into a joyful, relavent, moving, well sung, danced, acted and designed, Revival.
2. Than successfully moving it from the Park to the Hirshfeld with a deft touch and all the LOVE.
Brava!

If I had to choose one, at this stage of the game, I think it would be Ripley for Best Actress.
Because there aren't sufficient words that completely describe how incredible her performance is. It just must be experienced live.
I can't choose one, but I agree with some that others have already posted: Next to Normal for best musical, Lauren Ambrose for best supporting actress in a play, and Alice Ripley for best actress in a musical.
Featured actor/musical - Gregory Jbara
He makes a sympathetic human being out of what could be a very one-dimensional character. Watching the transformation take place - especially during "Electricity" - is a tear-inducing experience. Add to it all those factors that don't go into it (but probably should) - A lifetime in the theatre, a professed LOVE for all aspects of his craft that makes him admired and respected by his fellow performers, directors, engineers, stage hands, and FANS. The love for the craft extending openly to the fans that come with the job. He not only loves having them - he doesn't mind at all in letting them know it. A devoted family man who hurts when separated from his family but who never lets that affect the quality of his performance.
He's reached a point in life where the chances of showing the world just what he can do - as an actor as well as a singer - just won't happen that often anymore. And a role giving him the opportunity to show his dramatic as well as comedic skills, as well written as this one? Probably never again. It's his time. He deserves it. He's earned it.
CPD --- totally agree with the Diane Paulus comments. I'm sure she will get nominated, and would love to see the win as well!
I'd definitely give Best Musical to Next to Normal. I was originally gonna say Alice Ripley for Best Actress, but I think that'll happen anyway.

Is there a reason for you to make remarks on my posts? Besides me a being a fan of hers, for the category she is a very likely possibility.
Josefina Scaglione for Best Actres in a Musical.
I don't even think it's eligible, but Music in the Air for Revival.
You are right, it is not eligible. But the year FOLLIES played Encores! I would have picked it for Best Revival as well.
Couldn't agree more with Curtain re Diane Paulus, it would be lovely if she won.
And I really don't get the Greg Jbara for Best Featured Actor argument, I can't remember how many times I checked my watch during his number at the top of Act II. Will Swenson on the other hand...I really hope he wins.
