re: If you could see one person onstage....

In no particular order:

Ethel Merman in Gypsy
Patti LuPone in Evita and Oliver
Robert Preston & B. Peters in Mack & Mabel
Gwen Verdon in Sweet Charity
Chita Rivera & G. Verdon in Chicago
Angela Lansbury & Bea Arthur in Mame
Betty Buckley in Carrie and Threepenny Opera
Some of you have already posted the majors (but I had to include Merman's Mama Rose)

I WISH I would've seen Jennifer Holliday in Dreamgirls perform "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going". I saw the Tony Award performance and I can only imagine how AMAZING that would've been live!

re: If you could see one person onstage....

In over 30 years of theatregoing (close to 1000 shows), nothing I have ever seen even comes close to Holliday's performance in "Dreamgirls" -- simply miraculous. 22 years later I still haven't gotten over it and still get goosebumps when I think of it.

No fair, broadwaysweetheart, you stole all of mine!

I'd also love to see the OBC of Rent, and Rachel York as Lilli Vanessi. I have the PBS broadcast of her in the show on DVD, but I'd be great to see her live.

Sutton Foster and Hunter Foster in Grease.

Broadwaysweetheart: Leslie Uggams is still appearing in Thoroughly Modern Millie until the final performance, June 20. She is terrific! What a voice! And in the final scene when she dresses as a young modern she is absolutly adorable!
