I am listening to In The Heights album, I do not think people know how special an original musical is on Broadway. I am so glad the critics and Tony Committee the Pulitzer committee all knew how great this musical is. It should have lasted longer on broadway.
Yeah! My favorite part was when the Piragua guy won the Pulitzer.

The music was good, but the story. All of it was so incredibly stupid... Like not even enjoyable soap opera bad.

The story for In the Heights was laughably terrible.
While I didn't love the show, the story wasn't that bad. It was simple and sweet.
It was loved by many, and lasted as long as the public needed it to. As is always the case.
To the OP: there are probably dozens of threads on this show from when it was open, why not look them up and see what people actually thought of the the show when it was playing.

Loved the film adaptation. Sofia Vergara was born to play Daniela and Selena Gomez was a perfect fit for Nina. So happy Lin-Manuel Miranda was able to reprise his Usnavi for the film. Looking forward to the DVD release in October.
I loved In The Heights. Can't wait to see Lin-Manuel Miranda at Joe's Pub next month!
I think it was a shame the way the movie pre-production fall apart. I, for one, would have loved to see the film adaptation with Lin-Manuel.

I loooove the score, but as others have said, the book is a mess.
I've warmed up to the score, but the plotlines are predictable and banal. I didn't care for the Broadway cast, aside from Andrea Burns, but I liked it much better on tour.
I really enjoyed this show and even saw it several times during its run on Broadway. That was until the final performance whereby the obnoxious fans in the audience totally turned me off to the show.
Dramamama -- why do people care so much if someone wants to post a topic that may have been discussed before? What does it really matter?
Did I say he shouldn't have started this thread? Or even implied that? No. I even RESPONED to his question, simply and honestly.
I only SUGGESTED that he might find more detailed info by looking at the threads that existed. It was meant to be a helpful suggestion. There was no snark in any way.
Oh -- sorry. The sentiment is expressed so often that I assumed its customary snark. Apologies.
