"You're judging the whole thing on one extremely cut for time song?"
I didn't see it as a judgement but a comment on what was there. That's what they presented as a representation of their show on national TV, what else can you comment on?
It didn't do much for me.

She did but Joy corrected her. The show just came on here in Denver. Loved Whoopie raving about August Osage and it is evident she is trying to see as many shows as she can. And the "financial lady" is Suze Orman.
ljay, I am assuming your "Whoopie! No!" comment was because she called the OBCR the "soundtrack". I enjoyed the number although it seems that anything I see from this show is him rapping. I haven't seen the show so I don't know if he raps a lot during the show. And Mario Cantone was quite annoying, as usual.

This number worked better than Passing Strange's.
Given the time that was given to them, they did a nice job with it, but you really cant judge the show based on that few minutes.
That was an EXTREMELY shortened version of the song.

What song did they do? It's not up on the Forbidden Site yet.
Personally, I find it bland like the show itself! Just watch Caliente because they have better dancing than that robotic choreography that I just saw on TV. Horrible show! Lin Miranda definitely copied Rent and hispanized it! Nothing original about the show.
Spork, they did the opening number in the show. In The Heights.
Wow NYCBoy, you pretty much missed the whole point of the show completely. How is it like Rent? Because it contains modern music? How else? I don't see the comparisons. Miranda, as seen in the interview counts Rent as an inspiration to him but to say that its like Rent is out of left field. Also "hispanized" isn't even the right word considering in the show. Usnavi is Dominican, from the Dominican Republic and hispanic is used for people from Spain.
It's a lot better with the full version. I feel they should have cut more of Lin and kept more of the other people. It sounded strange (or normal, haha Whoopi)
NYCBoy2, I respect that u did not like the show, but watch what you are writing. Based on their television performance, I do not see why you have to do an attack on lin manuel and the show’s choreography, and on top of that degrade latinos by saying the show is Hispanicized and to watch telemundo, as if that is the only comparison to the choreography. Saying that a latino is Hispanic, slave name given by Europeans is extremely disrespectful. The show is nothing like rent, they are different communities, different types of stories, and different music. If you are going to criticize the show do it constructively, and don’t start with the racial comments. Coming from someone who thinks in the heights is bland, yet loves Cry-baby and praises it throughout these boards. Good for you. Seems you are just “ a little upset” at the success of in the heights.
I liked it but too many things were cut for me. But for the people who haven't seen it... It is a good hook, I just wish they did the Usnavi Vanessa Benny part...
I love the show, and I was pretty dissapointed. I can see why they picked it, but there are much better songs that display more talent.
What an awful number to showcase. I just can't get behind this show. In any other season it would have flopped. And beyond the awful material is the awful staging.
Bobby, have you seen the show? If you haven't, how could possibly say it would have flopped in any other season?
I've seen it twice and really enjoyed it. Part of the problem with these television appearances is that they end up doing truncated versions of songs, which don't always translate very well.
I kind of wish they did, "Carnaval del Barrio" instead.
I thought the number was fantastic and I really enjoy this show and cast immensely!
is there a link to watch this? thanks.

As much as I adore the show, this performance was kind of bad, especially out of context.

I really thought they did a great job with it!
I liked it, but noticed that the sound levels were kind of odd.

I loved what they did with the set-up though. It looked like a cheaper version of the set, but worked nicely. I'm sure they'll use something like that for the Tonys. I didn't mind the number, but I've heard it so many times. I think they should have done "96,000" because that sort of reveals the plot a bit more, whereas this is just name dropping the title of the show and a community that most of us haven't heard of before.

Yeah, it wasn't as good as it could have been. Ohh well!
