Justina Machado will play the role of Daniela this summer. Anyone know what's up with Andrea Burns?

"Is this considered stunt casting?"
No way. She has no name recognition at all.

Posted: 6/24/09 at 12:36pmYeah, I wouldn't really call this stunt casting (although I won't lie, I'm excited to see her!).

Posted: 6/24/09 at 6:21pmShe'll be great, I don't think I've ever seen her do bad work, and yes, she was fantastic in SIX FEET UNDER and it's a pity she hasn't done much after that. This is not stunt casting at all, not only is she not a name, but she has also appeared in a few high profile plays in LA and has a strong theater background. I'm not really sure about her vocals (Andrea Burns blows the roof off with "Carnaval del Barrio") but I'm sure that what she doesn't have in vocals she'll make up for in laughs. I can't wait for this, I'll definitely have to make a trip to IN THE HEIGHTS.

Looking forward to seeing her!
She's a terrific actress - she had a lead role in the recent film PEDRO, written by Academy Award winner Dustin Lance Black (for MILK) and based on the life of Pedro Zamora.

Posted: 6/24/09 at 6:32pmAndrea's husband, Peter Flynn, is the resident director at a summer program in Ithaca, NY. She's taking the summer off to be with him. She'll be back in the show in the fall.

This is exciting!
I saw Justina Machado in THE MAMBO KINGS when it played in San Francisco a few years back (it was supposed to be an out-of-town tryout, but it didn't end up coming to New York). She was really good, and she could definitely sing! I actually ended up seeing it twice, and I remember being really disappointed when Justina Machado was out the second time I went, because I wanted to hear her sing her big song again. Turns out her understudy was Natalie Cortez (this was before A Chorus Line), and she did really well in the role too.
