- who says they aren't posting on the message board?
- no one is stopping anyone from commenting on works. Marc never said anything remotely as such
- Marc, like ANY OTHER POSTER HERE has people that like and respect him. Just like Namo, Matt_G, PapaLovesMambo or fill in the blank. Just because people hop onto a thread does not constitute ass kissing. It constitutes people taking an interest in what's being said.
- if you think the presence of any artist on this message board would result in less bashing, well, you're just naive.
- everyone, yes everyone is entitled to their opinion. I don't believe anyone suggested otherwise
who made up this rule that complimentary comments alway equal sucking up and brown nosing. Have you never given someone a compliment? Would you like it if someone swooped down in the middle of that conversation and loudly proclaimed you a "suck-up"?
don't use the anonimity of the Internet to act in a way you might not even think of doing in a REAL place, face to face with the people you are conversing with.
Uh oh, here comes more ranting...why is it evertime someone writes that they like a show they are called "shills" and everytime anyone with recognizable credits in show biz gets a role in a show it is deemed "stunt casting". I just find these words offensive, but I co-wrote SOUTH PARK, so who the F**K am I to call words offensive??

Matthius- Was I really the first person to welcome you to the boards?!

I think the "stunt casting" thing is intended to be used in the event that a famous person is cast in a role that they are less-than-qualified for.
Unfortunately, the use of this term is rampant and used frequently in incorrect situations.
The funny part is that this has all been said before. The antagonists on this thread are different for the most part, but it's the same script.
Marc posts, and people are attracted to it (myself included) because we respect the fact that he will share 'inside scoop' occasionally. Some of us want to agree, some disagree. Some even compliment.
What f-ing kills me is the people who come in to belittle those who agree or compliment. What holy high tower of delusion and faux-superiority makes you think that you have ANY right to deride someone for admiring and complimenting a celebrity in their midst?
I remember an incident where Shaiman blew a kiss to the camera at the podium of the Academy Awards as he was being introduced. He had said he was going to do something of the sort, right here. I can't tell you the joy that a silly little act brought me to feel like I was part of the "inside" of an event of that magnitude. I knew what it was about... He may have told 2000 different stories about it to 2000 different people, but I'll tell you, it made me happy. Just as happy as I feel when I leave their show.
Whatever the motives are, being able to "know" him (at least superficially) has made lots of people happy. Two or three cliched idiots may eventually drive him away, because of the friggin' monotony of this exact type of thing. Because these "too cool, high and mighty" people feel the need to berate other members, future members may not have the opportunity to engage in this discourse, and they will lose out.
Add to the discussion, agree, disagree, even compliment... But when you make the decision to pass judgement on and belittle other members... you are violating the terms of your membership and crossing a line that you should never cross.
CKeaton, you're my knight in shining armor!!! Bra-f**king-O!!!
Come on - some of the posters on here definitely border on ass-kissing! There's a difference between giving someone a compliment (which some have in this thread) and being an ass-kisser (which some hav in this thread). Re-read some of the comments. Please.

Do you know how much belittling occurs on these boards on a daily basis?! Of course you do.
Relax, you're acting like I personally denounced each and every person who posted a compliment. Stop looking for arguments - what I said was in jest - teasing, joking, laughing. Not "You people are all below me, how dare you compliment someone!" Please. That's not at ALL what I meant. Seriously dude, get a grip...I don't think I'm better than anyone, and what I said certainly doesn't merit the kind of response you generated.
Thank you! Let's review some GV and Brooklyn threads! Prime examples! I'm not saying I don't do it. I'm just saying it is always amusing that because Marc posts here people get so up in arms defending Hairspray or they come here and gush like a bunch of teenage girls at a Britney Spears concert. It's funny.

I've called people shills. In general, they are people who join the board and on their first post start singing the praises of a struggling show they have "just seen" and urge us to ignore "the so-called critics" because the house was PACKED when said poster saw the show, there were 14 standing ovations during the ballad alone and the entire audience, en masse, marched right after the curtain call to the miraculously still-open box office to buy tickets to see it again.
I only call somebody a "shill" when I feel my intelligence as a feminist and somebody who did good in English has been insulted. I personally think the brown nosing is kinda funny. When you first posted here, Marc, there was a rash of sig files that suddenly said things like "If anybody's looking for the next Link Larkin for Hairspray, though I don't really know if anybody involved with the show posts here, I AM the person you've been looking for. Seriously."
That shtuff cracked me up. And yes, my new sig file is definitely ass kissing. I really want to be undead to Corine2.

Compliments are only called sucking-up when they are given to somebody "known."
I don't get it... I can give someone else a compliment and it's fine. I give you (Marc) or someone else a compliment and I hear, "Stop sucking up!"
Stop sucking-up to what? It's not like he (or any other person) cares...
Get over yourself (munk and anyone else)....
It IS funny, and anyone looking to make this seem like more than it actually is needs to find something to better occupy their time. If anyone was as truly outraged and disgusted with my post, as ckeaton seems to be, then I'm sorry that you misunderstood what I meant. It wasn't an attack, but at observation. So let me ask you this, keaton - what holy high tower of delusion and faux-superiority makes you think that you have ANY right to correct me?
Thank God. For a second there I thought this was going to turn into a thread praising and worshiping ALW. Dodged that bullet.
Namo. Please. This whole shill thing stupid because they don't even exist. Like I'm sure producers care what a bunch of people on some little discussion board think of their show.

"I only call somebody a "shill" when I feel my intelligence as a feminist and somebody who did good in English has been insulted."
Honest question for FindingNamo: Was the incorrect grammar there used on purpose?
BSO: Clearly, you didn't read my post. I clearly stated that it wasn't directed towards everyone - you're the one that mentioned yourself in that instance. For the record, I wasn't referring to you. Perhaps it is YOU that needs to get over YOURself....I did not write that comment with you in mind. But obviously, something you said must have made you question whether or not it was directed towards you. Well, it wasn't.
I have a holy high tower of delusion and faux-superiority that is made from the bones of homeless orphans. It's real cozy.
I have a right to my opinion just like you... Obviously a nerve was struck on both sides of the argument.
Can we please shelve it. We all know that the people who ask for free tickets or jobs are kissing @ss for less than honorable reasons, but when you call a whole large group of people a general name and lump them into a category that is rife with judgement, you are bound to piss a lot of people off.
Actually Hairspray deals with a similar issue...

Loge, do NOT be so naive.
And yes Joshua, that was on purpose. As was the other day when somebody started that "Don't you HATE it when people call songs by the wrong titles" and I reference T&A from The Chorus Line. That was a joke. But where were The Politeness Tweens when somebody picked on me for it? I ask you?
Actually, had you read my post subsequent to the original, you would have seen that my post was not directed towards everyone. I lumped no one together - you did that.
Broadway Legend Joined: 9/29/04
Yet again: Who are these so-called Politeness Tweens?? I'm missing something.
And I vaguely remember that thread. I don't know why I didn't run to your defense. I must have been intoxicated.
I beseech you, FindingNamo.
Just to put this all in perspective, NamelessChorusBoy was in Urban****ing Cowboy! So please do not rag on him anymore.
Sueleen, thank you for that!

Oh oh oh! No WAY! Now that's a prime example of a show that had some serious shills here.
Also if any casting directors are looking for a Sissy for any community theater productions of Urban Cowboy (or as we gypsies call it for short "UCK") I'm your man.

I thought you were talking to me...
