Yes. That is really Marc Shaiman. And that is a picture of his dog.
Marc, very well written. To the point, yet not rude. Loved it! A+!

I think it's fun - seen it twice...
The difference is that whereas marc was defending the show, ncb was making up fals accusations, as Marc said....

Yeah, I'm totally suing because I don't think you're the real 442namffug. Please PM me your address so you can be served with a court summons. Thanking you in advance.
I told you the Brown Nose Brigade would be swooping in!!
Let's do the math:
(this blowing one's own horn always gets certain folk in here really riled up...get ready!!)
ok...
One composer/lyricist who has been lucky enough to have worked for over 25 years on all sorts of theatre, film, recording and television projects that naturally would appeal to a sizable percentage of folks who post on a Musical Theatre message Board writes in to said message board when his show, partners and friends are anonymously attacked.
around 15 (wow, 15!!) whole people agree with said composer about the nasty bitter tone of the posting and a few offer kind words re: his Tony Winning Best Musical show which entertains a few thousand people a night, even with the occasional unhappy camper
than someone like Munkperson finds it all so distasteful (using lovely words like brownosing and desperation), but finds nothing wrong with his own attacks on aforementioned composers friend and musical comedy star Nathan Lane or other various opinions he or she has written on this board
I guess I am too old and there is some new kind of math taught these days, but why does this not compute??
damn, my post took so long to write, it lost it's context...
Namo, you REALLY REALLY crack me up

Huh? I when I said "brown nosing" and "desperation" I wasn't referring to you - I was talking about those who were obviously sucking up, you even said it yourself.
What does that have to do with my not being a fan of Nathan Lane? There's math involved?
Off topic, yes. But, Marc...I'm waiting for a "First Wives Club" musical. Only if you compose!
It will be brilliant!!

Why does this not compute? I don't know - I think I am also too old to understand. Guess this is why I only occasionally post to internet message boards...

"The Politeness Tweens"? Who's that?
I think it's great that Marc Shaiman is defending his show. But there is a difference between defending your work and throwing the same sh*t back at the instigator. He could have been the bigger person and purely defended his show. But instead, the same nasty, condescending tone was used right back at nameless.chorus.boy.
But since when have ANY Broadway "celebs" been decent or civil? Unfortunate things happen when people know your name... or when you win a Tony...
CATSNYrevival has made good points. It's funny how many people on here suck-up and act all phony because the composer is a frequent visitor to this board. I have only seen Hairspray in Seattle and there were things I did like about it, but as a whole, I wasn't as thrilled with it as I would have expected for two reasons:
1). I absolutely love the movie.
2). After South Park my expectations were extremely high. I consider South Park to be absolutely brilliant (on so many levels). The score is really marvelous!
I was just disappointed in Hairspray. It seemed a shell of the movie. I am sure it's hard to adapt a movie to a musical, especially when song takes up so much time...time that a movie fills with dialogue.
I did, however, like some of the music ("You Can't Stop the Beat", "Welcome to the 60s", and "Cooties" were particualar favorites). But, overall, there was disappointment.
What I don't like about chorus boy him saying he's in the know and he knows people, and blah, blah, blah. Anyone on here can say that. In my view, if you claim to be an inside, it holds no water unless you give your true name. Still, it's a discussion board, and everyone has a right to say what they want on here, and it's one of the things I like about it. We have to choose what to place value on and what not to place value on.
Now, I still think Pink Flamingos is a great idea for a musical -NOT!
exactly, Mr Munks, I am attempting to reprimand folks like you who try to belittle people who take a moment to say something nice about someone they might not get a chance to connect with if he wasn't as much of an attention freak as I am!!
and yes, math is involved, as in what goes around comes around. Well, actually, maybe that's Science. Or Ethics. Damn, I shoulda finished high school. Either way, try to be a little nicer, it won't kill ya

I was giving this more thought and wanted to touch upon something someone said. They implied that the composer of a show would naturally be biased about their own show. There's some validity in that but I will say that it is MORE likely that a show's composer would be far more CRITICIAL of changes to their own material or the integrity of the show they created, no? Now they might not verbalize it as a rant, but I certainly don't think they would bother to post in response to an anonymous chorus boy if they didn't feel 100 percent that the show they envisioned wasn't being represented in the best way possible. No, I would think said composer wouldn't bother at all.
If you are in the profession, I would think you would know how tempermental artists are.

Bravo, Loge.
But what are we to expect? Most theater people ARE phonies and ass kissers. It's true! Don't even try to deny it.

Theatre is political, Josh. The only way to survive is to kiss ass.
Look at the crap on Broadway now - talent certainly doesn't seem to matter much...
I still don't understand why Shaiman feels the need to "reprimand folks like" me. I was just saying that people are sucking up to you, and it's funny. Nothing nasty at all. And if you're referring to my past posts about certain shows and/or performers I do or do not like, this is a message board - for discussing Broadway - am I not supposed to talk about what I don't like?

I can understand being an ass kisser. I mean, I do f*cking love South Park and I remember honestly being floored at the high quality work that went into such a foul subject matter. I thought, when I bought it just for kicks, that it was going to be cute and funny. I had no idea that I was going to fall in love with the score. I just think it's A LOT better than Hairspray, but that's me.
What cracks me up is wondering what would happen if Steinman or Webber or the creators of Good Vibrations or Brooklyn showed up on here. I'm sure we'd see a lot less bashing of their works.
Heck, I would kill for the talent that any of these people possess, but I will stand by my opinion on Hairspray, just as I defend my right to love South Park and Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Well, I am sure Webber knows his stuff sound the same. Now, I could honestly say how much I love POTO (read my review)....
Frank Wildhorn....now he is someone I would like to meet!

Long live Andrew Lloyd Webber!!
Now THAT'S a great composer.
Go ahead. Attack me like a pack of rabid dogs. I'm prepared.
Well, I think the Mr. Marc of South Park is pretty darn good too.

You have my word as a fan of good theater and a feminist that if Steinman or Webber posted here I would not hesitate to tell them exactly why I think their work is mostly unlistenable.
