The longer they wait to release the first trailer, the more intrigued and engaged their core audience becomes - us. For everyone else, they'll splash it all out there in a small window of time, get all of the actors circulating, and it becomes an event that Mass-America didn't see coming. Smart marketing, IMHO.
I just want to see the dang trailer already! lol
I love this musical and I am super excited about this movie!

Exactly. The Disney people know EXACTLY what they are doing.
With Maleficent and Cinderella being marketed heavily right now, it would be a mistake to release a teaser trailer. It would get lost (or confused) in the shuffle.
I would guess early fall.

I think we're expecting it so soon since principal photography finished last year and they've been in post for quite a while now, when les Mis hadn't even finished shooting and they had a teaser out there in time for summer. But if I remember correctly, we didn't get a Sweeney Todd trailer til October-ish. Granted I hope we don't have to wait THAT long, but hopefully we'll get some stuff soon, a poster maybe?

Yes! Was thinking about that recently. We waited a very long time for the Sweeney trailer.

That's why I'm starting to think that the rumors of the $40 million budget are true. 'Cinderella' has a higher budget and the marketing is more important for that film right now.
In other news, the film will now some more family-friendly competition this Christmas. The movie 'Paddington' is now going to open that same day. We'll see what happens then.

I'm thinking it's a possibility that a trailer might be shown during screenings of 'Planes: Fire & Rescue'. That film will have obviously have family-friendly audiences and that might be a good opportunity for audiences to see the trailer.

We're not seeing trailers because they miscalculated how difficult it was to turn Streep into a beautiful witch.

"Sondheim Reveals Plot Changes for Disney Into the Woods Film"
This was expected. Disney wants to target this movie to children and so they've scrubbed the darker aspects of the material. At least we're getting real actors. I thought for awhile it was going to be an animated project.

"Any Moment" being cut would be a great disappointment.
"When pressed that he should have stuck up for the inclusion of the song, Sondheim said that he and Into the Woods' Tony Award-winning book writer James Lapine did so. "But Disney said, we don't want Rapunzel to die, so we replotted it."
Oh Disney.

Disney decided not to kill a Princess before.
Original source material.
New ending
So this means no Moment in the Woods right?
I think MOMENTS is still in there, it's just probably a different context.
So instead of having sex with the prince, she is going to....kiss him?
I would be okay with them just kissing. Just as long as some sort of infidelity happens. I'm also okay with Rapunzel running away, although I would prefer them kill her off. Tone it down but don't change the story, Disney.
So if Disney didn't want the darker material, why did they buy the project in the first place? The whole point is IN the darker material.
"You know, if I were a Disney executive I probably would say the same thing." I guess by now Sondheim is resigned to having crappy movies made from his work.

"So instead of having sex with the prince, she is going to....kiss him?"
That seems a little familiar.
"Now she thinks you and I..."
"Kissed?"
Younger audiences probably assumed the character on top thought it was just a kiss.

He knew what he was getting into.

Even with these changes, it is still better than the changes that were to be made for the earlier adaptations that fell through. At least there are no muppets involved.

Back in the day was it ever meant to be an actual Muppet movie, or just a Henson Studios movie? Henson has created plenty of fantastic creatures for movies that had nothing to do with the Muppets. Now I'm kind of intrigued by the idea of a first act witch that looks like the Grand High Witch without her human mask.
