Into the Woods: Revival or Original?

I didn't see either production, but I have both cast recordings. I honestly like the revival better. I'm not a huge fan of Bernadette, and the cast is just all around better on the revival, and I like the new additions .What do you all think?

re: Into the Woods: Revival or Original?

There is a topic posted not too long ago with almost the same exact headline...
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

re: Into the Woods: Revival or Original?

The show has started bothering me...I used to be totally in love with it...in fact, I was a little obsessed, but recently I've been a little bit upset with it. ITW OBC video was my first Broadway show to watch, and I LOVED IT. I almost DIED not owning it...and then I rented it back in November..and sat there thinking...what is this? I set the standards way too high. I think I'd probably like the revival better because it's more...up to date/some comedy has been updated and it's just refreshing.

I like the Original, and I like the British cast equally

re: Into the Woods: Revival or Original?

I saw the original late in the previews (sitting next to -- unbelievably enough! -- Alexis Smith and Craig Stevens), and I still treasure the memory. I didn't like the revival quite as much, maybe because I had too many memories and expectations. I thought having 2 wolves instead of 1 (to create symmetry with the 2 princes, maybe?) didn't work, and I really missed the Witch's "You're so nice / you're not good / you're not bad / you're just nice" section of "Last Midnight." But it was still a good show, and the recording's worth having.

Like Elphaba, I'd also recommend the British cast recording -- it's a darker, more brooding interpretation than either of the Bway albums, and it brings out details I hadn't paid enough attention to.

re: Into the Woods: Revival or Original?

I've listened to clips on the OLC and it...bothered me some more. The only song I liked was Our Little World. I wonder what it would have been like if it were in the OBCR...probably amazing. It's a good song and I'm upset they didn't have it in the OBCR. Our school didn't even include the song because it was "too long". ? Man, that's one of the only songs from the show that I still like..

re: Into the Woods: Revival or Original?

In the revival, they tried to "Disneyfy" the show, and it just didn't work. It's not a children's show! It was written for adults, and I'm surprised James Lapine didn't know his own material better than that.

re: Into the Woods: Revival or Original?

I Liked them both, I mean i think i preffer the Gothic Renisannce look over the "Pop Fiction" look. Each had very good performances.... i think it is just a matter of which style you like....
