Will it beat out "Gypsy" (and even "Sunday") as the critics are predicting?
Most likely.
Definitely.
It really is that good.
And I hope so.
In my opinion, yeah, it's a beautiful production. And plus it has the fact that it's the first revival in over 50 years.
Yup and Its going to win the BEST MUSICAL REVIVAL category too!
J*
Yes, it really is THAT good.
Yes it will beat out the other two revivals!
No. Not the Nellie nor the Bloody Mary.
It'll know the live lobster right out of Rose's hand!

I'm pretty sure it will win: SITPWG has always been an acquired taste and Gypsy has been done too recently (nothing against the current production, in which Lupone, Gaines and Benanti are superb -- and I go back to the Merman version). I can see SITPWG being recognized for lighting, sets and maybe best actor. Gypsy, IMO, stands a good chance for all the other performance categories. But SP will take the big one, I think.

I feel like the voting logic could well be that voting for Patti is just the same as voting for the revival on the whole: I mean, she IS the show. She's the reason it's back, and she's its major selling point. So if I had to predict, I'd say Patti will win best actress, and South Pacific will -- rightly -- win best revival.
And Sher should win best Director also.
I see Patti's win the only for GYPSY.
I think Boyd is a genius and the best Herbie ever but he has three TONYS and this part is just not that showy, but I wouldn't mind if he won again.

See I see something odd happening like:
Best actress - Patti
Featured actress - Laura
Featured Actor - Boyd
Best revival - South Pacific
Seems odd, but I could see it
Yes. This production of South Pacific is really that good, and it is, in my opinion, superior to both Gypsy and SITPWG, both of which are also excellent, and in any other year would probably win the Tony for best revival.
I think it needs to win Best Revival, Best actor and Actress, and best scenic design.
It's a beautiful production. But, no, Sunday is better.
Then again, we all remember when Pajama Game won over Sweeney...

It's not odd... it's what should happen!
Sigh, its the only one I will not have scene from this season, so it will win everything to spite me.
"Best actress - Patti

That's what I'm expecting to happen, too, Elphie3. And as zooxanthellae expressed, that is how it SHOULD happen =)
In terms of the full production, "South Pacific" pretty much takes it for Best Revival(which is really saying something because the "Sunday" revival is simply extraordinary and this "Gypsy" is incredible!). But the 3 performers from "Gypsy" mentioned above should absolutely take the respective performance awards. The work being done there just can't be argued, IMO.
They can certainly be argued.
This is America, right?
