What would even bring you to think this? At what time has this ever been discussed as a limited engagement?

I just presumed with Jennifer Hudson it would be. Like most musicals with Oscar winners.

I thought your passion was gone.

His Aaron Burr screen name was deleted so I guess it caused this resurgence.

You mean, her first and last major movie eight years ago, based on a Broadway musical? What in there indicates she is above a Broadway run?

I liked her in that movie about the bees.

Have you never heard of replacements?

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

In the OP's defense, I thought (before it started previews anyway) that it was also a limited run because they only had tickets on sale through March.

"You do realize  all shows release tickets blocks at a time don't you? And again where did you ever hear or see the words "limited run"? Make sure you post it when you find it.

LOL I was not being a douche but thanks for being one in return! :) I can't remember the last time an open ended run released such a small block of tickets, so I just assumed that it was just a limited run. Thanks again for your wonderful BWW hospitality, though!

Don't take it personal n2n. broadwaystar is nasty to anyone who says anything remotely negative or false about The Color Purple. They are connected to the production, it's the only thing they post about.

really, isn't everything "a limited run" in some way?

The original production did very well financially without any star casting so this revival should survive if Jennifer Hudson leaves it.

The thing is, besides being an utter toad of a human being, Riedel usually has the least knowledge of the topic in the room. He doesn't usually understand the content or approach of a show, and is always completely and unfailingly socially ignorant, which makes it really infuriating when Susan can't get a word in edgewise. A definitive mansplainer; it's always painful when he has female guests. I watch the show sporadically when I really want to see a guest, because it's the only theatre talkshow we have, but it would be so much better without this hateful clown in a dadcoat. "Oprah Winfrey Presents..." was its own form of star billing.

It may not have been intended as one but it may wind up as one depending on reviews and if people want to see it. Time will tell

haterobics;   I assure you J.Hud makes more money doing one concert or one television appearance than she will make in a 6 month run of Purple.  I also thought that this might be a limited run.

Well, no, it would not end up a limited run no matter what. Just a short one. And reviews for the production are going to be strong (we already know the Times is a rave).

You are saying why she doesn't need to do it. But the original query was that she was somehow above doing it... I don't see enough evidence for that, nor do most people make it strictly a money decision. Lots of people who do Broadway again and again don't need to financially.

I didn't get that in the original query.  My assumption is that she is doing it because she wants to do it.  And yes.. she does not need the money.

A fan who magically knew that theatertrash was invited back to the production BEFORE he posted it. OK.

Anyway, I completely agree that Hudson is doing this because she WANTS to, not because she needs the job.  She has been very genuine in interviews about how much this experience means to her. She even accepted the offer before knowing which role they wanted her for.
