"careful, becoz - the feud between you and lizzya is going round in circles, and starts to threadjack!"

I'm not arguing because I like it. I'm trying to set Lizzy straight that these issues are still relevant. You weren't here for the Lea Michele thing so you wouldn't understand it.

"and you don't agree, that she hasn't seen the show, and that she likes beauty and the beast."

You haven't seen much of her. I'm fine with anyone not liking the show as long as the give valid reasons of why they didn't like it. Lizzy hasn't seen the show and she is making assumptions and her reason for disking the show are invalid.

"yes, I do know a lot about A Chorus Line, and Dance:Ten, Looks:Three happens to be my favorite song.

But doesn't it make you want to go out and get a boob job? That seems to be your logic here."

haha. Lizzy is just trying to convince people that SA "bad."

I think we can all agree that it depends mostly on the maturity of the particular child & the kind of relationship they have with their parents about that kind of stuff.
About a month ago I had the pleasure of inadvertantly meeting the former piano teacher of a Broadway actor, needless to say his 13 year old son was very aware of theatre. He told me how he had already seen a lot of mature shows, and they decided to take him to see Spring Awakening within the next few weeks. But that their other 10 year old son wasn't going, because he had a hard time handling intense theatre, he also wouldve rather been going to a baseball game.
Apparently he really enjoyed it, and it wasn't that bad for them. No permanent emotional scarrign to speak of.

Enjoy the show 14 year old.

i agree it's completely based on maturity level. I also think a key arguement here is "do we NEED to see the show" vs. "SHOULD we see the show". Is it important young adults and adults come together and come to an understanding of what issues are key in their lives, of course. Is SA going to be that beacon of hope that's going to suddenly bring about this revolution of understanding? Probably not. Not to sound philosophical but adults and teens have existed for centuries and each generation brings with them a new set of issues that can shoot to the top of their lists as "important". And to this day each age group continues to remain seperate and sort of uncomfortable about the other groups key issues. SA certainly thrusts at the audience all of the important modern issues. Does every teen have to be exposed to these issues even more than they already are? That can be argued. Personally I don't care but there are many who walk the halls looking at these issues right between the eyes every day of their lives and really don't need a Broadway show to show them all these issues again. It's like seeing a play or movie about the death in Iraq. Do we need to go see a show about it when we can simply turn on our t.v.s and watch the coverage? That can be argued both ways and it really SIMPLY comes down to who is seeing it and why do they want to see it.

SERIOUSLY becoz, what is your deal? You don't have to be mean, you have no remote idea the kind of impact B&tB had on me, so don't even begin with that. You are so incredibly rude, I won't even start. Lea Michele cussing is NOT the reason I don't like it, you have to move on! yes I have not seen the show but I'm pretty sure about half the repliers on this thread haven't either! When I reply I am replying to the original poster and answering their question, I was in no way arguing with you or being disresepectful towards you. So why do you feel you have to be that way towards me? Just stick with your opinion and I'll stick with mine, don't shred me apart just because we aren't alike.

Lizzy,I realize I have been rude and the only reason I was, was because you have really invalid reasons for not liking Spring Awakening. You once listed it as one of your favorite shows and it seems you stated to dislike it because Lea Michele said a cuss word and supposedly said she did not like Disney musicals. Then you made up all this rude and untrue stuff about her just because she did not like your type of shows. That is what bothers me about you. It is not because you don't like Spring Awakening it is your reasons for not liking it that I dislike.

"Lea Michele cussing is NOT the reason I don't like it,"

I just happened to have finished reading the thread that started this feud. Objectively I have this to offer:

"Posted On: 1/3/07 at 09:09 PM
I hope she gets snubbed at the Tony's and Ashley Brown wins, just to prove her wrong, and that Disney musicals are 100x better than her stupid porno live! show. I mean I really hate the entire musical now because of her. I hope it flops ; )"-posted by Lizzya9

Later in the thread it appears that Lizzya9 did try to back track and change her reasonings for not liking the show...whatever they may be, it is what it is. Just agree to disagree and hopefully everyone wil be able to share their own opinions in a friendly manner.

I saw that Oprah episode about Thirteen, and I was 12 and wanted to see it soo bad but my mom wouldn't let me and I begged her but still no. I still have not seen but my friend did and told me all about it, and frankly, even though some of those issues are prevalent in teens, they're certainly not with the people I hang out with. Because I am smart and hang out with good people.

You come across as everything but smart on this board. You come across as ignorant. You make strong judgments about a show that you have never seen. You ask for arguments when you have no sufficient data to support yours. I wish you the best, and I hope you open your mind and/or are given some sort of a wake-up call sometime soon, before your ignorance does enough damage to scar your credibility and the level of respect given by the people you come in contact with in life.

But hey, if you want to spend $110 to watch 20-year-olds screw on stage for 2 hours and 15 minutes, that's your choice. = )

It's erratic statements like this that make anything that you type be seen as invalid. You have not seen the show. This is not what takes place for 2 hours and 15 minutes. You are making an extreme judgment based on your ingrained biases, which will NEVER be a valid reason to support ANY judgment or argument made by any person, ever.

I am SOO over you people on this board, you have no idea how to just let someone have their own opinion without completely bombarding and bashing them.

You have no idea WHAT an "opinion" is. Don't expect to state something as a valid "opinion" when it is based on nothing. As you enter high school, you'll learn in classes that in order for an opinion or argument to be acknowledged with any respect, you will need to provide valid sources to support your opinion or argument. You have not done so in the judgments you have put forth, so as a result, people are "bombarding" or "bashing" them. Get it?

I know this is old, but I wanted to add to it in case other parents were finding this thread via google (as I did) before taking their kids. I took my 14-year-old high schooler last night, and she wanted to leave at intermission. I think it's really important to judge based upon your kid not just the age. I am not conservative at all (We attend church, but we are hardly the "religious right" and voted for Obama, and I let my kids read whatever they want) and took this same daughter to Avenue Q (which she loved) 2 years ago. She's also seen Sweeney Todd and has been listening to the cast recording of Rent since she was 11. But this was just too intense for her, partly, I think, because it was so dark and partly because it was about sex, rather than the occasional reference or song about it, like in Rent or Avenue Q. I think she was a little embarrassed to see it.

Anyway, so I'm just mentioning it not because I think anyone's kid is going to be scarred for life but because I definitely would have gone with a friend or my husband (i.e., not wasted my money taking my daughter!) if I'd known we would have ended up leaving. I think if someone's kid knows all about it and ASKS to go, it's probably fine for that age. I would have been fine with it at that age, for sure.

P.S. I see that anyone who comes down on the side that this MAY NOT be appropriate for a 14-year-old has been demonized on this thread (such as the 17-year-old who said she saw it and was uncomfortable -- what could be a more valid answer to the OP than her real feelings). Not everyone who thinks that is a religious nut or censor. I'm not saying the show isn't good or valid or that it will give kids ideas (I don't believe that, and if anything, it makes it seem like teen sex is a VERY BAD idea, considering that two of the characters end up dead) or shouldn't have been made. I'm not even saying it's bad for all teenagers. There were some girls next to me, loving every minute of it. But yes, it may be too intense for SOME 14-year-olds, including mine even though she's been raised pretty liberally, and from a strictly "don't waste your money" standpoint, parents should give it some serious thought because I was really bummed not to be able to see the second act!!!
