I don't care what anyone wears to the theatre as long as they're respectful and quiet during the actual show.
If you want to wear your robe, wear it and have fun. It's not hurting anyone else.

Like animals on airplanes, I'd much rather be seated next to someone in a robe who doesn't talk, eat, text, or kick my seat, than a person in a suit who behaves like the theatre is their living room.
I went to the first preview and since most of the people going were fans, my friend and I opted to wear our house robes and had a BLAST!!!!!!! It was great! I'm not sure what the atmosphere will be like in other performances but for the first preview it was an awesome experience! I'd say more people dressed in robes for part 2 the next day after seeing some people wearing robes on part 1.
One thing I wish they sold were chocolate frogs and jelly slugs and butterbeer!
To me, what bothers me more are people's behaviour during the show (i.e. opening up candy bars during the intimate/quiet moments of the show or whispering/talking to the person next to them throughout the show, etc.) than what they wear to the show.
So if you wish to wear a house robe, go for it!

I'm working here (not saying as what though...) and I've seen PLENTY of robes...and while I do agree live theatre is not the place for this, do this at a movie theater if you must as I certainly dressed up when I went to see Deathly Hallows at midnight, I WILL say just about every patron who's worn one has seemingly been on their most respectful behavior. As long as one's behavior is respectful, wearing robes is the least of my personal worries.
Sadly it seems every theater now is allowing food into the house...THAT'S where I draw the line. I can't believe this is legit thing now. But I can only put my own personal foot down, as I have no control over those kinds of rules.

People are ascribing veneration for live theater as if it isn't an entertainment venture. It's not a court or commencement ceremony or a wedding or a funeral. It's entertainment first and foremost. As long as it isn't distracting, I see nothing wrong with wearing the house robes. It's no different than wearing a shirt with the show's logo.

The day we waited in line for first show tix, tons of staff were wearing the House hats and scarves they sell in the store. My guess is they are pleased that folks dress up, it adds to the fun, and possibly gets others to buy the merch.

This reminds me of when American Psycho had buff boys in their underwear wearing the transparent plastic logo raincoats. I assumed it was intended to promote sales of merchandise, but the guys posed for pictures with a lot of people.

I think the point was the photos, and people posting said photos on social media, to get more people into the theater. Once you get people in the theater, the merch sorts itself out.

I agree 100%. In fact, it would put a huge smile on my face if I saw people in robes. The books mean so much to so many people that I think it's kind of lovely when I see it shine through. And I say this as a self-described theatre going curmudgeon (although otherwise #Puff4Life)
I'll be wearing my Slytherin cardigan, Slytherin hair bow, Platform 9 3/4 earrings, and a pair of Deathly Hallows tights.
No one is going to take my enjoyment out of this so I'm going to do what I want to do.

whoa, post a pic of those earrings?
My understanding is that the staff is required to wear those things. I know someone working it and it sounds like they are trying to make it fun for them to work the show.

I'm 35 and will happily be wearing my Hufflepuff robe when I go. And I'm sure my 10 year old will be in her Ravenclaw robe as well. I guess I didn't really think of wearing robes as cosplay since I'll be wearing normal, dressy clothes underneath (as opposed to a Hogwarts uniform type of outfit). Either way, I'm a huge Potter fan and I promise my daughter and I will both be some of the best behaved audience members there, so I don't care too much if someone doesn't like our robes :).
Make sure you wear a very tall pointed witch hat and DO NOT take it off during the show!
Have a fun time.

I don't have a picture of them, but they are from this pack: https://www.hottopic.com/product/harry-potter-symbols-earrings-set/11134249.html#q=harry%2Bpotter%2Bearrings&start=3

are they selling any Harry Potter themed foods? I saw a picture in the lyric theater tag of someone holding pumpkin juice. I’m not sure if they brought it from somewhere else or if they were selling it at the theater.

I searched and the only thematic food I could find was the pumpkin juice, but maybe later on they’ll have more

I don't see the harm in it if it isn't distracting (big hat or hair, spilling over into the next seat, noisy elements), especially if kids are doing it. Cosplay is far down the list of bad theater behavior grievances.

Same! I’ll have to look you up when I see the show in May. :)
When I was at Ham people wearing show merch/ITH merch acted a bit snotty as if to say "look how big of a fan I am." But the atmosphere of this show seems different and if a lot of people are doing it it seems appropriate enough.
When I went, there were a TON of people in robes, dresses with Harry Potter on them, tons of Gryffindor scarves, etc. and no one seemed to act above anyone else.
The only thing I saw was a few people who got pretty drunk from the wine slushy.

That wine slushy was no joke, it was way stronger than I expected. Though for $17 it better be strong, so I wasn't disappointed.
I saw a gaggle of bearded Bros, had to be early 30s, heading to the show this weekend in full regalia. They were very dapper!
yes that frosé or is it frozé (frozen rose slushy drink) was soooo good! lol. I only had one but it was great! I bet it'll be a hit once summer comes along.
