Cynthia Erivo is a lock. Goldsberry is not, she can easily lose to one of Erivo's co-stars
Given her reviews, I think Krakowski is a more considerable threat than either Hudson or Brooks.
Jeffrey Karasarides has said that he hadn't heard anyone talk about Leslie Odom Jr. for lead actor (he is the only person who hasn't) and has since gone on to staunchly and feebly argue that Danny Burstein is going to win based on this or that. Dude, just admit it's a competitive race and that Burstein is not a lock of any sorts. He might win but Odom Jr. is giving a masterful performance in a smash hit and like wonderfulwizard11 said, the audience indeed goes wild after "Room Where It Happens," not to mention the fact that roles like his, where he plays the narrator of the main story such as Mandy Patinkin in EVITA and Ben Vereen in PIPPIN have a history of winning. And don't be bringing up the Oscars as an apt comparison because they're not.
Remember that when O'Hara won her biggest competition was already a Tony winner and a bonafide star in a show that was much less of a hit than THE KING & I. Again, Burstein could win but get over yourself and admit that Odom Jr. poses a real threat and is as likely to win as Danny Burstein.
Wonderfulwizard11, I agree with you that Jane Krakowski is Goldsberry's biggest threat rather than Hudson or Brooks. But I have a hard time seeing anyone but Goldsberry win (her delivery of "Satisfied" alone is genius) though I'd probably vote for Krakowski's magnificent turn as Ilona in the jewel that's playing at Studio 54 right now.
Without a doubt, the Color Purple actresses will cancel each other out (like Fun Home) and it will be down to Goldsberry and Krakowski, and although Krakowski gives an incredible comedic performance, I think Goldsberry's arc is more impressive and really feels like she is living the role, rather than performing it, thus making her a lock in my eyes.

Eclipsed was definitely amazing. I found the Humans to be incredibly disappointing. Blackbird and Color Purple are definitely my favorites of the season for play and revival musical. If Blackbird is a revival, then I'd expect Eclipsed to get new play, or King Charles which was also excellent.
Actors from the same show getting nominated in the same category don't "cancel each other out." That's not actually a thing.
Krakowski is wonderful, fabulous and delicious in SHE LOVES ME. But it's also (let's be honest) the same performance we have seen her do many, many variations on before. I do think she will be nominated but doubt she will win.
I do think Odom would have won in a heart beat if he were supporting. I think the role is comparable to Mandy Patinkin's in Evita and that was a supporting win. I frankly think the rest of the men in the show's roles are so small that they aren't especially award worthy. A couple will be nominated nonetheless but I'd there is a more showy supporting male role in Shuffle Along, American Psycho or Waitress -- they might stand a shot in that category.
I would give an award to Daveed Diggs.
And I think some would give an award for Jonathan Groff. It's just interesting to me because those roles seem so much smaller than Renee Goldsberry's which is a true supporting role. Maybe the Tonys need an award for Best Featured Ensemble member.
i keep forgetting about American Psycho which whatever the outcome should feature a lot of opportunities for memorable supporting turns. Ben Walker might end up being a real contender if he's great. It's definitely a scenery chewing role.
In terms of stage time, I think Daveed has a lot more to do than Renee. After Satisfied, Angelica doesn't appear much in the story, but Jefferson is all over Act Two.
Maybe so. I guess for me Angelica's material has more emotional impact which left a greater impression.
Opinions are opinions and just that. So here is mine, We can't really predict how the Voters will vote so I will just give my opinion as if I were a voter. (which I'm not)

I am a big Danny Burstein Fan. I adored his performane in the Drowsy Chaperone and felt that was his best performance and he was robbed of the Tony that year. He was a killer buddy in Follies and gave great performances in Golden Boy, Cabaret, and South Pacific. Consistently good work.
I was quite disappointed with his Tevye. He was directed to take out all the wit and charm and life out of his normally ebullient performances and he was a nebbishy Tevye. I felt Motel stole the show.
But because Danny was so good in other shows ... and was robbed (Drowsy Chaperone) he may win for the wrong part as do many other actors and actresses. (Sandra Bullock, Kelli O'Hara etc)
As for Rene Goldsbury... I don't even remember her in Hamilton. I don't remember much of the woman. It is a man's musical. The key parts are Hamilton, Burr and King George and the women were just there. This was also the case in Something Rotten. You just don't remember the woman. I think the Color Purple woman will thrive here.
I think She Loves Me was astounding and got mutally good reviews. I haven't seen the Color Purple. Being disappointed in the Fiddler revival, I think She Loves Me or Color Purple will trounce the competition.
Just my two cents. Which are worth two cents.
^But you don't speak for the Tony voters, so your opinions will not matter.
That's correct. But then again no one elses opinions on here. matter either. It's just talk.
In his defense, Jeffery, he literally started and ended that post with the fact that his opinions don't matter in this case. So that was sorta redundant.
I think Danny's might be the sole Tony win for Fiddler. Color Purple will win revival. The Humans will win best play. Hamilton will sweep everything else. But what is that saying about opinions being like ass*ol***? There is a saying.. I just can't remember it.
And it does sound like Shuffle Along may take choreography-- maybe costumes too. That's at least spreading the wealth a little, which would be nice.

Okay let's hold on. She Loves Me is winning Revival. The Color Purple isn't.
I also think The Color Purple will win revival. It has more emotional heft.
Though I enjoyed She Loves Me much more than Color Purple, I agree that The Color Purple is a more likely winner based on how much praise it has garnered for rejuvenating the original material.

I think best actress in a musical is going to be a fight to the death between Erivo and Benanti.
I could see something like Shuffle Along taking Costumes, but I'd be very surprised to see anyone but Andy Blankenbuehler win for Choreography. I love a good tap show, and Savion is a genius, but the choreography in Hamilton is a huge reason why the show works as well as it does. It's not just good dancing, it's essential to the storytelling. A number like Yorktown, for example, gets a lot of its considerable power from the movement and certainly wouldn't be as effective without it.

Best Play should be an interesting category. I've said previously in the thread that I haven't seen Eclipsed, but even between the Humans and King Charles III it is very difficult for me to pick a winner.
If Goldsberry were not to win Featured Actress, the legitimacy and validity of the entire Tony institution would come into serious question for me. I've posted this across the boards for months now, but her performance is among the most Tony-deserving I've ever witnessed.
