I'd love to see this back on Broadway. It's pretty much the best rock score around.

I agree. I am a big fan of The Who, and while I didn't like the orchestrations the first time around (and from what I read, neither did Roger Daltry.) I do hope that the new Stratford production transfers a la Jesus Christ Superstar.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Having seen the promotional footage, the new production is basically a remounting of Des McAnuff's original production.

I was just in a production of TOMMY at my high school, and i absolutely loved the show and would LOVE to see a new revival on broadway!

It looks pretty much the same except the TVs are flat screens now and I think the original Broadway production used projections instead of LCD screens. Still, the original was pretty great so I guess Des didn't want to change it too much. It's basically just a remounting of the original production though. I think the majority of fans may want an actual revival for Broadway with a new director and different designers.

BC radio interview I linked to the other day, Des said that the main difference was that they were limited in having to use slides originally and now could use moving images in their projections (I think he called it a stage cartoon or some term which I have a feeling wouldn't go over very well here.)

Would love this, one of my favorite shows. How about Sherie Renee Scott (the original Sally Simpson) as Mrs. Walker? Or Gavin Creel as Tommy? Andrew Rannells as Cousin Kevin? and Patina Miller as The Acid Queen, although that would be a waste of talent for such a small part. Such great music.

I don't think Patina's voice is quite right for the acid queen. That role is much more suited to a voice like Adrienne Warren's. Now that would be something to see.

I'm going it this coming weekend at Straford and I'm very excited. It does look very similar to the original staging, but since I saw that on tour when I was about 9, my memories are not too extensive.

I think it is time for a revival, but if one isn't staged, I think a 20th anniversary concert staging would be great. Perhaps bring back some of the now well known names from the 1993 production?

I loved the original when I was really young and would be so happy to see this as an adult!

The video looks pretty good, although it does look like its very similar to the original MacAnuff version. But that was a very good (and, I think successful) production that got a lot right-so I don't blame him for keeping what worked.

I'm glad it looks similar to the original, which I thought was absolutely brilliant (and deserving of Best Musical over Spider Woman). I'd love to see it again.

I only saw JCS during the Stratford run, but found the production fine.

Whatever problems I had with the show were due to the way it was originally written...sloppy rhymes (fire and Messiah do NOT rhyme!), jumpy music that emphasizes the wrong words/phrases, and a general feeling that it was crated by two smart-ass Sunday School boys who didn't take the story seriously.

Given the inherent flaws in the material I felt the Stratford production (as played in Stratford) was about as good as we'll ever likely see.

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
