Freaking awesome!
Now, what are the chances of them recording their performances like they did for Brooke Shields in Wonderful Town and Vanessa Williams in Spider Woman?

I've been a fan of Bernadette's since she played the stepmother in "Rogers and Hammerstein's Cinderella" and when she voiced Sophie in "Anastasia" and Rita on "Animaniacs." I'm so happy she is returning to Broadway!

Since I haven't seen any of these women perform before, I have no bias. So which pair should I see?

Great. Stunt casting. Worthy of the Wesslers.

tazber - I agree! Let's hope they decide to do that!
Why would it close in June then open in July? Couldn't they just find a replacement for Angela and Catherine until Elaine and Bernadette take over?

How dare you call Bernadette and Elaine stunt casting? These are two Broadway pros who are eminently suited to these roles, taking over the leads in a well-reviewed, successful show. They're not some TV stars dropped in to save a dying show.
Shame on you.

Quotes from Bernadette and Elaine!
Bernadette as Desiree was all Sondheim's idea. Very interesting.
And Stritch makes some typical Stritch comments. lol.

I love this casting!
I would have love to have seen Peters take over the Zeta-Jones role ealy so her performace would have overlapped with Landsbury before Stretch came on.

Wow, love the Stritch quotes, love how she's basically admitting that she's not even sure if she's right for the part but she's gonna do her best. I love it and love her.
Thanks for posting the article, Ljay, it was great reading Bernadette's thoughts on the whole thing and of course as usual, it's another genius idea from Stephen Sondheim.
I never thought I'd see Bernadette Peters and Elaine Stritch play mother-daughter. I actually never thought I'd see Stritch in an actual role on stage, I thought she was more or less retired, it's great to see her back in the game. I will definitely be there.
