Switched my iTunes Store to the UK and listened to clips from the album, and it turns out the tracks are from the live mix from the broadcast (and possibly the dress rehearsal). You can hear (VERY faintly) audience applause and cheering in the background. The clips so far are what I wish the live broadcast would have sounded like. This must mean the 4 tracks they made available early were studio versions? Not sure. Still listening! :) This must also be why the CD release was pushed back?

oh. well that’s disappointing, just because some of the vocals weren’t as great live as i’d have liked (particularly for John Legend at times and some of Pilate’s high notes) i was looking forward to a studio recording

That's why I'm wondering if they could've used a dress rehearsal version of Gethsemane. The clip stopped as he sang "I have to know, I have to know...".
Heard Heaven on Their Minds earlier today and the cheers definitely threw me off. I had anticipated a studio recording.
That’s disappointing. The early studio tracks sounded significantly better than the live performance.

Yes, but this being the Live Concert, the energy they brought to the broadcast helped fuel that whole evening and I felt the performances were stronger than on those studio tracks that were probably recorded several weeks into rehearsal.

I'm personally glad this is a LIVE soundtrack recording because I want to be able to relive the performances as they were on the broadcast, albeit with a more enhanced and "polished" sound.
I don't mind this at all, as I love concert cast recordings of other musicals. Hearing it sung "live" and the audience cheering always adds to the experience for me.
If there’s one thing about the live broadcast that may disappoint me if retained on the album is the “see how I die” ending of Gethsemane. I’m making sure I save my studio version because I don’t know if iTunes will “override” or “update” it to the live version if I don’t download it directly to my computer.
Looks like the entire album is now officially available stateside on iTunes. Still waiting for all the tracks to populate in Apple Music.

Hm I don’t see it on Spotify yet, only those 4 tracks from last week

I had to keep refreshing iTunes and Apple Music. All the songs finally showed up in Apple Musyc too. For the person who was concerned that they’d replace the four pre-released studio songs with the live versions, it appears they did not do that. Update: I was wrong - after I deleted the four pre-released songs from my Apple Music library, they were replaced by the live versions. I really loved the studio version of Gethsemane.

Just listening to the preview clips on iTunes, but did they take Norm out of the “He is dangerous” lines of This Jesus Must Die?

Yes, It appears they did.
Yeah, I can't hear him, either. Why would they do that?

Maybe in mixing the album, they realized it sounded better without him. He was singing lower than his normal range so maybe his voice didn’t blend well with Jin Ha’s.
I will say that while I still prefer the studio version of Gethsemane, I’m not totally hating the live version. I’ve been told that poets should leave a little “dirt” on their poems. Otherwise, they can seem hermetically sealed and unapproachable. This version of Gethsemane does seem more rough and in keeping with a man who knows he is about to be murdered. I know it wasn’t intended to be performed that way on Sunday and that it’s not likely a popular opinion, which is fine. Just my two cents.
This is such a let down. I was excited to revisit these vocals in studio quality. Also so strange that we go from the "WOOO-HOOO-ing" crowd to the four studio tracks.

As far as I know, everything on the full release album is a LIVE recording.

Apple Music did not replace my 4 previous studio tracks. You can hear the difference.
If you delete the studio tracks, they'll replace them with the live ones.
Anyone know if it's going to be on Spotify? I can't find anything when I google it.

I don't know about a Spotify release, but I wanted to say that, even with the added crowd reaction noise, the NBC soundtrack as released actually has the clearest sound mix of any of the other recordings that I've heard.

Bought this on iTunes and am disappointed. I also wish it was a studio recording.

Probably redundant, but for a live album please also listen to hadestown!
Ended up just getting it on iTunes. While I do wish it had been a studio recording, I am enjoying the live recording a lot!
