Jackie Hoffman's Tweet about Not Winning the Emmy

I hope that doesn't get her in social media trouble because it's too funny!

Do you suppose the NYPL in Lincoln Center's next exhibition will be "Broadway and Twitter: The Hate Comet of 2017?"

My thoughts:
a) they're hilarious, and
b) I'd be shocked if Dern didn't love them, and
c) anyone who wouldn't take them in the manner they were obviously intended couldn't possibly love Jackie Hoffman.

I was wondering when this thread would appear!

First off, let me start by saying I've been a huge Jackie Hoffman fan since her Second City days, and assumed all of her reactions and tweets were meant to be taken as humorous, not serious. However, outside of the Broadway community in which she's made a name for herself (and even there some love her, some don't), I don't think her schtick is terribly familiar in Hollywood. I can easily see Hollywood types and the media taking this the wrong way and being offended by it (references to Hollywood nepotism, child porn rings and Nazis are highly loaded). I think she could have explained away her physical reaction to losing (screaming "Damn it, damn it" as comedic, but the tweets started to become a lot if you don't otherwise know her style. Frankly, even her tweets/comments leading up to the Emmys were getting to be a bit much, and I'm a fan.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the future for her tv/screen career - I certainly hope people can see it for what I'm sure it was, but I'm not convinced that will be the case.

It's not an issue of people thinking she was serious or not - it's an issue of good taste, decorum and judgment, if anything. I am sure many people in Hollywood/the general public who doesn't know her schtick didn't think it was funny and thought she was actually being a sore loser. I thought it was hilarious, but again, I'm familiar with her sense of humor and happen to enjoy it. But she could easily become viewed as high-risk, loose cannon - she's even viewed in some Broadway circles that way because she rarely sticks to script and that isn't everyone's cup of tea. I really hope it doesn't come back and bite her in the butt, because she's one of the best comedic character actresses I have ever seen, but it's quite possible it could, at least in Hollywood.

99% of the reactions I saw on Twitter after it happened were positive. She knew she wasn't going to win- she wants to extend her narrative and it was a brilliant move. She's mentioned in almost all recaps of the ceremony this morning.

I thought it was hysterical.

She got quite the ovation when her name was announced. Her video calling the nominees went viral. I think she'll be just fine. The only people that seem to be freaking out are those that Troll twitter to police everything. I'm sure Laura Dern got the joke.

I do not actually like Jackie Hoffman as a performer, although I did like her in Feud, but I assumed from the getgo that she was having some fun. There have been times when the nominee clearly showed his / her annoyance. Don't know if it is on Youtube or not, but Shelly Winters is probably the silliest...already won the Oscar twice, she was visibly angry that she lost for, of all things, The Poseidon Adventure. (Looking at the nominees, no one actually deserved to win that year...'the nomination was honor enough'.
