Posted: 6/18/09 at 9:19pmUgh, I really wish this show would have stuck around, granted, if it had, HAIR wouldn't be in that theater, and that theater is so perfectly suited for HAIR, so whatevers! But it was great, but the problems were apparent. Act II needed some trimming - too many ballads, but Barbour was incredible in the show, and really deserved that Tony! Was he even on the telecast? I thought he was nominated? Maybe I made that up.

Posted: 6/18/09 at 9:21pmTale got no nominations.

Posted: 6/18/09 at 9:25pmNot even for Barbour? I guess I'm thinking of the Drama Desk. Sad, he really deserved to win. If you sat down and watched all the performances, I think he was wonderful. Beautiful voice, wonderful stage presence, great comedic timing, and a touching ending.

I am so anxious to find out who is in the rest of the cast! I assume Brandi Burkhardt is still in Mamma Mia, so she isn't part of it

Say what you want about Barbour's past mistakes, he's a strong singing actor. He was marvelous in the recent GRAND TOUR. Excellent voice, wonderful and consistent Polish accent, striking stage presence. My only complaint about him that night was his damned hair. It was so long people were tripping on it. I understand he's since had it cut.

Posted: 6/18/09 at 10:34pmHis voice really is one of the most breathtaking I've heard. I feel uncomfortable saying I'm a fan of James Barbour, especially since I'm a teenage girl, so I just say I love his voice. I wish that every thread about him didn't turn into a snarkfest, though, because I really like A Tale Of Two Cities and I think he was the strongest part.

Schmerg_The_Impaler, you know that Sydney Carton on the concept recording is the writer's brother? Haha I thought he did a great job, but Barbour definitely does it differently (in a good way!).

I'd love Brandi to be in it too - but I highly doubt it. If they cast Barbour (as they should) who is American, I'm guessing they'd get a British/UK Union star to be the other leading position (I believe Brandi was considered for Leading Actress nominations, not that she got ANY!).
Although would it really surprise anyone if Tale scraped the plans for the concert and just recorded the Broadway cast, in light of 'Glory Days' getting a recording and the .. bizarre-ness of the concert in the UK as it is??

Posted: 6/18/09 at 11:29pmI'm sure they wouldn't scrap the concert. There would be no need to. Plus, it played much longer than Glory Days and has better music and pretty much better everything. The concert is playing in England, where, I feel, it will be greatly appreciated.

Posted: 6/18/09 at 11:35pmHopefully Natalie Toro is in the Concert. Though, if Carolee Carmello took some time this summer I would love to see her play DeFarge.

I thought London audiences switched over to more like pop fluff stuff now?? (But I do agree - wonderful music, very touching almost)
Has ANYTHING been set for this concert yet besides a potential venue??? It seems fishy if it's supposed to happen in July or August.

"Hopefully Natalie Toro is in the Concert. "
I hope so too.
I wouldn't be surprised if Jill really pushed for those who have been with the project for the past 6+ years: Craig Bennett as Cruncher, Toro as Madame DeFarge, Nick Wyman as Barsad, Les Minski as Marquis...and then get British people for Dr Mannette, Lucie, DeFarge, Gabelle (didn't he have a song/snippet??) and Darnay. It'd be pretty evenly split, which I would assume that's what they're doing.
I just hope they go for talent and not names (Chess ??).

"Although would it really surprise anyone if Tale scraped the plans for the concert and just recorded the Broadway cast."
I would be surprised, actually. Tale was backed by a lot of producers who really believed in the show, and were going to keep it open despite the negative reviews (keep in mind, it was the Al Hirschfeld that kicked them out in the first place).
With so many people who believe they have a show that deserves to be seen, I think a concert would be their best bet.
Not to mention the limited educational value the concert will have. If I had to read A Tale of Two Cities in high school, I would opt to just watch the musical, but that was the kind of student I was.
"Hopefully Natalie Toro is in the Concert."
It would be a crime if Natalie Toro was not part of the Concert Cast. Not only has she been with the show for a LONG time, but she can sing the crap out of "Out of Sight, Out of Mind."

I seem to recall reading that they were set for the Royal Theatre in Brighton.
It's funny you should mention high schools, Cyco. Back in November I was talking to Jill and she was telling about the select choir of a high school in NJ had come to see the show and had performed for the cast. They were studying the show and were performing a concert at the school. Then she went on to name the high school...yeah, it was my alma mater! Small world.

Maybe I was wrong ... I'm not one to speculate or assume anything, but on Brandi's facebook her status says: "off to London" and a few days ago it said "its all happening". Do we know if James Barbour is in London?
I suppose their going to just record it over there? Maybe a different concert cast then (which I'd be open to if the B'way cast is recorded)?? Hmmmm!
