James Barbour is in Tale!

Posted: 6/19/09 at 7:53pmYeah, James Barbour's facebook status (which is also his twitter) said that he was in London, so maybe they have more original cast members in the recording than we thought. Brandi does a brilliant rendition of Without a Word.

Posted: 6/19/09 at 7:56pmUm, sorry, but I could think of plenty of others who could. (As has been mentioned, Alex Santoriello did a great job.) And I've been in love with the character since I was a teenager.

Posted: 6/19/09 at 9:26pmSomething just happened five minutes ago that I've been waiting for for months, and yet that news about Natalie Toro just TOPPED that. I'm really excited about this. And this thread makes me happy, because now I see I'm not the only person who liked Tale of Two Cities.

Far from it, Schmerg !! :))
A number of people on the boards loved it, and saw it 5-10 times !!! And some other lunatics (like myself) that saw it even more !!!

I saw it three times and that wasn't even enough. It was my favorite musical that opened last season by far, so you can imagine my excitement to get to see it over and over again.

Posted: 6/19/09 at 10:55pmI saw it in Florida and twice on Broadway. I had every intention of buying my mom tickets for Christmas because I felt she would have loved it as well.

Now things are as they should be! A Tale of Two Cities is an amazing piece of theater, inspite of cetain misguided objections. It should have lasted longer on Broadway. I knew it was only a matter of time until the cast recording was done!
As for this Florida girl, I saw it 5 times in Sarasota, and once on Broadway! And I would definitely have been a recurring part of the audience, if I lived in New York like some of you. It is so sad that so many people who would have thoroughly enjoyed this musical got robbed of the chance.
I am very glad to hear about Natalie and Brandi being part of the recording! :)

I can only pray for Natalie and Brandi as well!
Good to hear James is getting some recognition (read: paying work) these days!

Posted: 6/20/09 at 1:32pmHi guys, posting this from my phone! I detoured by the Winter Garden to kill time before another matinee and much to my excitement, Brandi Burkhardt is not in!! This could just be one performance, but the only thing in my mind is that she is in London recording TALE.

""Hi guys, posting this from my phone! I detoured by the Winter Garden to kill time before another matinee and much to my excitement, Brandi Burkhardt is not in!! This could just be one performance, but the only thing in my mind is that she is in London recording TALE."
As per Brandi's facebook (ew can't believe I'm doing this!) She will be out all week, as previously stated.. and in London!
So it seems it's most definitely James, Natalie and Brandi, and I wouldn't be surprised if Craig Bennett, Nick Wyman / et al would join, and who knows maybe Alex Santoriello will appear again as Dr Mannette...!?
Again: Makes no sense why they're all there recording an album, if a concert is still planned. I mean, I guess they could perform it without an audience? Is that what's going to happen?? Why would they record the CD and then do a concert? Why not just do the concert and take that audio??
Hmmm questions!
Also: I'm a huge Tale fan, I would widely regard it as one of the best shows I have ever seen (with sub-par directing, amongst other things...).
Does anyone think their will be some re-writes / re-instatements of some songs that got cut?

Posted: 6/20/09 at 1:55pmActually, I like that they are doing a studio recording and then a concert as well. I am just curious as to when the concert is because I have looked and looked and found NOTHING. You would think there would be info on ticket sales or something if it is close, but I see nothing. Oh well, still excited!

That's what I'm wondering...there is NOTHING.
Seems to me that this might be one of those concerts where they have a narrator and show scenes of Paris/London mixed in with the performance with them in costumes on a stage with *some* (obviously not the scaffolds) set pieces. Or the BROADWAY cast-ish will be doing the recording, and British doing the concert..?
Either that or it will be a straight up concert with no audience? I'd assume Brandi can't be out of Mamma Mia! until the end of June, and Toro has a concert in New York on July 7, and doesn't Barbour have a concert in like a week?

Posted: 6/20/09 at 2:05pmBesides having producers over there, it wouldn't make any sense to film a concert with no audience in England when they could have done it here. It just smells fishy.

Frank Wildhorn does most of his recordings in Vienna because he has connections there / Jeremy Roberts' company is sinking-esque/couldn't release DRACULA, the musical or Cyrano de Bergerac ~ The Musical...
so it would make sense that the producers would have studio connections in London, where it would be done.
It just doesn't seem like a concert version will be done. Again, I could be entirely wrong, but for all we know, it could just be the press reels (if they filmed the whole show - didn't Dickens' grand/great daughter want a copy of the show or something??/saw it 3 times I think!), with a narrator. Or it's NOT this cast doing the concert. I highly doubt it'd be last minute, especially since it's probably UNKNOWN in London. Or it'll be for producers/backers in London to see if it could transfer??
#44re: James Barbour is in Tale!
Posted: 6/20/09 at 2:11pmThat's another though I had! Maybe they are doing a recording with the OBC or at least most of them and then some of them will join for a concert later. The concert doesn't air on PBS until December, so I guess it could be anytime from now until then, but at least we know for SURE there is a recording :)
