"The View" has a number of Broadway stars this week, ahead of Tony nominations.
On Monday, Jesse Tyler Ferguson was a guest promoting his revival "Take Me Out". (You can watch this on their site).
On Tuesday, past Tony winner Viola Davis sat at the table pushing her book and talking about her career.
On Thursday, Andrew Garfield and Daisy Edgar-Jones will be guests at the table.
On Friday (which usually tapes Thursday afternoons if anyone wants to head over and see if you can get in!) Jane Lynch ("Funny Girl"
will be a guest cohost while Darren Criss ("American Buffalo"
is the guest. Of course, these two also worked together for many seasons on the hit show "Glee".
Set your DVR - 'The View' airs weekdays at 11 am ET on ABC.
Well that was awkward.
Lynch was the guest cohost and it seemed like the last thing she wanted to talk about was Funny Girl. Joy Behar said she saw the show the other day and Jane was fabulous and the songs were classics. Nothing about how good the show was, nothing about Beanie, certainly nothing about reviews. 🤣. Lynch then said how exhausted she is from doing eight shows.
Ana Navarro said she saw the show and it was great, but then moved on to Broadway returning back to normal in general, and what a treat it is to see a show if you’re a tourist. More emphasis was put on the tourist aspect than FG itself. She did say she never saw FG and didn’t know Brice was a real person. Lynch agreed about visiting NY and escaping into a show for a few hours and forgetting the world outside.
Darren Criss came out after the half way mark, and they did discuss AB more with him than they discussed FG with Lynch. They didn’t mention reviews or his performance, just the talented cast he has.
At the end of the show in the last 30 seconds, Lynch said she’s in the show through September and Beanie will be with the show for as long as she wants to sing her heart out. It’s an open ended run .
Felt like she was giving Beanie a big old virtual hug for trying.
I should point out that NOBODY on the show - none of the hosts - pointed out that Tony noms are next week. NOBODY said to Lynch or Criss "I'm betting you will be nominated for a Tony next week." (As they have done in the past when it's close to Tony noms, Emmy noms, Oscar noms...). ZIP. Nothing was breathed about the Tonys.
I still can't get over the look of disdain on Lynch's face throughout the show yesterday, and her low energy.
I'm sure when they booked her to take the seat weeks ago, she was expecting rave reviews for her performance and would have been nominated for a Tony this past week. Yesterday she looked like she wanted to be anywhere else but on 'The View'.
And - they had two Broadway actors on the show yesterday and didn't give the audience tickets to either show ???? That is very unusual for the show.
You...are reading waaaaay too much into this.
Not at all. Just comparing these two guests with other Broadway actors they had on this week and in the past. Lynch interview especially- so awkward and disappointing.
Patti nor the cohosts mentioned Katrina Lenk when Patti was on. Now the production has Lenk doing plenty of press. I wouldn’t look too much into it.

Yet they talked at length about the show, and how great Patti was in it. Same when Jesse Tyler Ferguson was on this past Monday for “ Take Me Out”.
Lynch’s interview was just the opposite.
People who are on as co-hosts like to have a little chat to catch up, but it's not meant to be a full interview. If she's there the whole hour, they're not going to do an in-depth segment on her first. Just her being there, mentioning Funny Girl a few times, and just being Jane, is doing all the publicity job it needs to.
It's a morning chat show, y'all, not the JFK conspiracy.
Lenk will be on The View someday next week.

I guess you're not familiar with the show, or the set-up by the producers.
When they have a guest cohost for one day, it's someone who is usually tied to a project to promote, and they've been booked for a reason. They do indeed spend the opening of the show talking about their project (TV show, movie, album, book, Broadway show) in detail - taking those five minutes in front of 5 million viewers for the best promo they can give. No one sits there like a lummox, not taking advantage of the segment and not building up any enthusiasm or excitement for the show as Lynch did. It's all hype and excitement - which Lynch completely lacked.

I am a fan of The View. Watch it all the time. Usually when Joy or Whoopi attend a broadway show they are very clear on their praise or if not they do not talk about it. Whoopi was not there.. but Joy was skirting around her comments of the show. She said it has beautiful music. Ana talked about the covid precautions at the theater. And then she mentioned she did not know Fanny Brice was real. They were not handing out compliments. And I thought Lynch was a unwilling participant in the conversation. But maybe it is just the way I saw things.

She didn’t know that Fanny Brice was an actual living human being? Hmmm, that is very, very telling…
