As Broadway World posters speculated from the very first day, Jason Alexander will be replaced Larry David in Fish in the Dark. Larry's last performance will be June 7, the day the limited engagement was supposed to end, and Alexander will take over from June 9 through July 19, the new (tentative, I assume) closing date.

Although I think the role is so tailor-made for Larry David and the Larry David-esque character, Jason's return to portraying Larry's alter ego should be unique, and I know I'll be returning to see him!

Posted: 3/26/15 at 7:37pmI agree and am guilty of only wanting to see it with Larry. I love Jason and find him very funny, but in my desperate attempt to score some tickets I really want to see it with the man, the myth, the legend Larry David. Hoping they release regular priced tickets soon!

I sort of wish Alexander had been doing it from the start. Larry David is not a good actor- he was outclassed by everyone on that stage, even Jerry Adler, who has about four lines before dying.
Alexander is also more age-appropriate considering the rest of the cast.

It is a very limited run which is, I believe, sold out. Alexander opens right away and stays in it for 6 weeks
HBO would reap big benefits if it taped it before he leaves but that is up to the HBO suits and David.

Yes, SweetLips, my intention was to share news that people may wish to discuss.
Also, please note I said "As Broadway World posters speculated," and if you check the original thread, I was not one of the individuals who predicted this happening. If anything, I'm giving credit where credit was due.
Back on topic, I think the show will definitely not sell nearly as well as it has been, but I think Jason has big enough appeal, and the show sold out so quickly that individuals who couldn't find tickets the first time around (or couldn't afford the premium seats that were available) will snag up seats for the new dates. If it's selling well enough, I imagine they'll extend again. It looks like they're giving Jason a test month to see how sales will be.

Posted: 3/26/15 at 7:48pmThis is what I was sure would happen from the very first, especially with the show playing to overflow houses. No one else would ever be accepted by the audiences with Jason being generally accepted Larry's alter ego. He is also, of course, a first rate actor and the quality of the play should be dramatically improved. It's great that audiences will be able to see Fishes for a long time into the future.

With Jason up there actually performing the damn show, maybe our beloved-but-smugly-distracted Larry can watch objectively from the house, scribblile some rewrites, and arrive at an at-least improved licensing edition.
Let's hope so l, because this stinker will be in regional theaters everywhere.

Something odd has happened to Alexander in the days since Seinfeld. He's... somehow different.
And, I did not think he was very good in The Producers. Maybe this new role and being on Broadway will revive his great talents.

I agree with Kad's comments. I saw the show with Larry and I am looking forward to going back to see it with Jason.
I am wondering if Jason will play the role very similar to George from Seinfeld (who is truly Larry, complete with Larry's speech patterns, facial gestures and body language), or will he attempt to create "Norman" as a different character, since he is literally not playing George Costanza?
If he plays it as "George", will people criticize him? If he plays it in a new way, and does not borrow heavily on "George", will criticism be even worse? I hope it doesn't end up to be a no win situation for Jason. But either way, I am curious to see what he comes up with.

The times I've seen Jason Alexander perform live I have been struck by a surprising lack of talent. I don't think he can create anything from the ground up. He needs a template. He's a born replacement.
