YEAH!! I am so glad that everyone has thought that Jenna was amazing. I saw her go on as Elphaba here in Houston and thought like everyone else that she was amazing. The perfect understudy/standby.
Yeah it was SO awkward with no trap door. Like for No Good Deed she ran on like a little kid runs around with his arms stretched out like an airplane and just ran around the stage for a bit and it was SO weird. And then like the melting wasnt bad, but the end...when she came back out, I dont even think half the audience knew what was happening. Like Derrick knocked on the floor and said "it worked" and then she just kinda...walked out
Is this trap door issue theatre dependent? Have they been able to do the trap door at the end in some theatres and not others depending on whether or not the theatre has traps under its stage? I'm taking my family to see the show at The Fox in Atlanta and I'm just wanting to know if I'm going to be doing some explaining at the end of the show?
Im pretty sure its dependent pn the theater. If the theater has trap doors, I dont see why they wouldnt use them. I think the problem has been that a lot of these theaters dont have the doors
Uhm her not looking the part is the least of my issues with her...she doesnt SOUND the part at all...AT ALL. I honestly dont know why they hired her. Im sorry if thats harsh but like...her voice was good sometimes but overall it was very not Glinda like and that was annoying
I asked Jenna about the trap door at the stage door. She said that they had a trap door, but it had been filled in with concrete. In order to get it out they would have to dig all of the concrete out which would have cost $1000 + . She apologized for it being so "lame". My friend went to the matinee today at 2pm and I haven't heard from her. She has never seen it so I'm curious as to whether or not she understood it or not.
Emo Elphie was ruined in No Good Deed without the trap door. Shame.
BTW, I love Kendra. I just think in this performance, Jenna stood out more. Both- fantasmic.
Thanks for sharing! I will be seeing it on Christmas night, here in DC... you have my curiosity up about Derrick's Fiyero! Upside for me on the Morrible front: last I heard, Carole Shelley is suppose to be doing Morrible when it gets here! I am super excited about that because it will be my fiance's first time seeing Wicked and he's a big fan of hers and I just think no one has brought Morrible to life like she did when she originated the role.
I've come this far with the truth of the heart. Deep down inside I think we're all the same. Try not to judge and never shame... I do believe people are good... they just want hope and respect... to be understood ~Melissa Etheridge
Not to start a fight but if I dont think this that two people making negative commentary on Kendra constitutes making this a bad talking Kendra thread...yes, its true, I dont think she sounds right for Glinda...and that was kind of annoying, but I did say she had a good voice that sounded pretty nice at some points...and yeah she was pretty well acted. I am more than allowed to have an opinion, whether good or bad. Im not saying Kendra is a horrible performer, because she isnt...I personally just dont feel that her voice is right for this role...thats all. As for keeping this a Jenna love thread....I agree, but,the originaly poster comented on Kendra in the original post so shes fair game to talk about too.
ANYWAYS, since this IS a Jenna focused thread, Ill stop now and wont mention anything not Jenna related again
My post was mostly directed towards the Miss Piggy comment. Totally rude and unnecessary, and not true at all. If you want to express your opinion on her that's fine with me, just have a little class and integrity while doing so instead of just typing out hurtful comments that serve no constructive purpose. While it may be true that Kendra doesn't have the strongest voice for the part, she's worked very hard to be where she's at and unless you know first hand the pressures of being a lead in such a show then you really can't begin to understand what a toll it takes. I certainly don't pretend to know what they go through which is why I always try to give them as much benefit of the doubt and credit as I can. It's my opinion that she has a lovely voice and totally wins you over with her comedic acting. I'm sure she does everything she can to sing the part to the best of her ability and yet, when she wants to take care of her voice and not come out to chat afterwards she's called snobby and other unkind things. So really it seems that with some people she can't win either way.
No I agree...I didnt think the Miss Piggy comment was too cool either. And I certainly dont pretend to know what its like to do a role like that, and yes her acting was actually quite good. I just didnt enjoy her in the role, nothing personal against her as an actress. And if she doesnt want to come sign afterwards who cares? Thats not part of her job. She goes and performs and thats her job. If she comes out after, then cool, if not then whatever she doesnt have to.
Yes I went green. To the theater, in the theater, during the whole show. The looks I got on the street were PRICELESS. Totally worth it.
Derrick signed my playbill "You look great green."
When I first went to get another shirt, the lady at the counter goes, "You're supposed to be backstage!". When I first entered the theater the people that had seen the show gave me huge smiles, the ones that hadn't gave me dirty "WTF?" looks. Funny both ways.
does anyone know if either the Broward Center in Florida or (most importantly) if the Opera House in Boston has a trap door? It adds so much to the ending!
