The producers just confirmed Hudson's casting but, shockingly, she will be playing Shug, not Celie.
I wonder if this means they'll bring Cynthia Erivo over from London to play Celie? She got rave reviews and was really, really incredible.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.

Nothing Hudson has done has made me think she is a very good actress.

The Music Box would be good but any of the smaller Shubert theatres would be fine.

Entertainment Weekly confirms the producers are rumored to be exploring bringing Erivo over.

I assume she's taking a supporting role so she has a stronger shot at winning that Tony…

^ true but the location on 45th St west of Broadway is prime real estate so likely the Jacobs, Schoenfeld or Music Box as first choice

Wait, she's not playing Celie? How would that even work in terms of billing?

I didn't mind the show, it was the audience that treated it like a revival meeting that I hated.

I think the Schoenfeld would be perfect.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Doesn't matter which role she plays. It's too soon for a revival of this God-awful show.

She does know she is a big movie star right?

How bizarre. My computer has a virus and for a second I really thought this was some weird manifestation of it. I feel like if she wanted to come to Broadway it would have made more sense for it to be Dreamgirls. (Or Caroline, or Change in the Broadway that exists in my head, where Side Show and the Ragtime revival are still playing.)
I know you.

Shug may be a supporting role, but it's a very big one (and a flashy one at that). She has three solos and a huge duet that ends the first act. That's more material than the leads in a lot of shows have.
