Absolutely incredible, pre-recorded or not.
Although what was up with her crazy catch-breath in the middle of the word "early"? Voice teachers across the country twitched in unison.

It was fantastic! It sure looked live up until the last high note. but yes, it didn't look like she was really singing the final note. At that register in her voice, you would've seen some tension in her neck/jaw.
You could totally tell that Faith Hill was lip-synching, but it sure didn't matter with Jennifer. Awesome!

Christina, Beyonce- TAKE NOTES. It's possible to deliver a good performance without the crazy riffs.

I still remember Mariah Carey's too many riff-infused performance of the National Anthem a few years ago.
This made me forget about that for a while.

It was great.
But, in my book, the best version is still the Dixie Chicks from the 2003 Super Bowl.
The opposite of creation isn't war, it's stagnation.

I think Whitney's version will always be regarded as the best. Incredibly powerful yet it didn't destroy the song or the lyrics in an attempt to make it her own. It's the NATIONAL ANTHEM. You don't mess with it. Plus, the timing of Whitney's version was just right. We were a nation united that had just gone to war in the Persian Gulf.
Wow. The more things change...
