Update on this situation: the playwright, Matthew Lombardo, has won his case against the Seuss estate, which shut down this production last fall, citing copyright infringement. A judge agreed with Lombardo that the play was protected by fair use. The article says producers are hoping to open the show this holiday season, if an appropriate theatre is available, but it'll be without Simard.

Well, umfortumately it won't go into the space they wanted last year. Jersey Boys has that now.

Wait, is she still in Dolly?

"Wait, is she still in Dolly?"

She is. This post is from last year, came at the heels of her Disaster run and Tony nomination. Per perfectliar above, she won't be a part of this show when it finally comes to Off-Broadway this fall, but the Playbill article they have linked doesn't explicitly say that. She might leave Dolly! for this if she's asked and able to get out of the contract, assuming she wants to do it.

Missi Pyle would be incredible in this and a lot cheaper than Sedaris. I hope Seuss had to repay Lombardo for the money lost and expenses.

Oops, I left the word "likely" out of my post. Yes, Simard could leave Dolly for this, but I imagine she's signed through at least the end of Bette's run.

I mean, I'm sure she could take off a few months to do a holiday run, but I'm sure she's getting paid pretty well in Dolly, so the question is would she want to do it.

Sorry --- Broadway contracts don't work that way. Unless she has a specific "out" built in to her contract, you don't get to leave for another job. Not only that, but even if she's just making scale at DOLLY, she'd make a fraction of that working off-Broadway.

Ya know, Lesli wouldn’t be a bad replacement for Jenn in another show...
