"Jeremy Jordan Gonna be leaving Rock of Ages in a few weeks to play Tony for 2 shows a week in West Side Story on Broadway, starting December 16th!!"
Interesting. But does the role really need an alternate? I bet Matt H. will be bumped up to do the other 6 shows.

Odd that they think the role needs an alternate. I assume he'll stand by the other 6 shows a week?
Nevertheless, I guess I'll see WSS again, now. He has a killer voice, based on what I saw in ROA, when I saw him go on for Drew, and I bet he'll do a great job with this.
I'm almost 100 percent positive Matt H. is being bumped up to play Tony full time

I wonder why? It's not a vocally demanding role or physically demanding?
I have something physically demanding that he can do. Updated On: 11/18/09 at 05:23 PM
daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn.
That's a bottle I'd like to take down to the last drop.
I definitely wanna see WSS again now. He's incredibly talented.
"It's not a vocally demanding role or physically demanding?"... says the guy who probably isn't singing a high B and screaming for Maria 8 times a week. I'm not saying it needs an alternate, but it is demanding.

Must agree - saw him as Drew in ROA and he was incredible, so much better than Constantine. A really pure voice and brilliant upcoming talent.
Typically when a show decides to put in an alternate for two shows a week, does he cover the matinees?
I forget if there was anything about this, but is this production planned for a tour?
If so, perhaps the "alternate" schedule is so one can be prepped for the road...

My hunch is he'll do Wednesday and Saturday matinees, so the new full-time Tony (presumably Matt H.) doesn't have to do it twice in one day. Of course, I don't claim to know anything specific and I could be totally wrong.
adamgreer, you just made my day with that picture!

With minimal exception, most alternates play matinées, and largely so that the main performer can take a break. Typically it goes to roles like Evita, or Christine.
In some cases, a performer decides to stay on, but for any number of reasons (family, vocals, other engagements) will request an alternate.

this is incorrect information. jeremy jordan is not going to be the alternate.

Is he taking over full-time? The original poster just copied and pasted what was written (by Jeremy Jordan, presumably) on his fan page.

to my understanding, jeremy jordan turned it down, and they have resumed auditions for their tony alternate.
Jeremy's Twitter says he'll be Tony Wed. evenings and Sat. afternoons.

Well, I mean, anyone can say on their twitter that they are the Tony alternate. In fact, I think we all should!
