And I posted in a few other threads.. He told Diane Sawyer the other morning that he knew about his "illness" 5 months ago and hasn't eaten fish since. He should have been fine for the shows run.
This may not be the case but it just keeps running through my head that he left because of the attention Raul got at that matinee where they had technical problems and the audience begged Raul to sing. Didn't Pivens leave just a day or a few days after that happened? From what I gather, Pivens likes to be the center of attention and isn't happy when he isn't. I have heard 2 stories about his behavior while he was in NYC from 2 people that dealt with him directly and they said that they were not impressed with his attitude.

get on that, bestinshow.
his forced withdrawal from the show was an enormous personal disappointment since it was a life-long dream to perform on Broadway.
Don't you HATE when that happens?
The term "enforced rest" is interesting.
That means going to two clubs after the show not three.
Why didn't the Producers examine him?
Judge Judy would jump on them for that.
If he really was ill, why didn't he take a few shows off - perhaps a week or two - and then see how he felt with treatment and a change of diet?
I thought I read somewhere that a second opinion WAS ordered, but the results of the second testing hadn't been released.
Wonder why... hah.
Attendance is a big deal to me. Be it work/school/rehearsals I make it top of the list to arrive on time to my events. I also go to school with people who wake up and sneeze, and instantly think they are dying and must skip all classes to rest, so they can go out that night to party. Maybe Piven doesn't consider performing on stage THAT important to him. HOWEVER, if he was lying the honorable move to make would be to finish out your contract. IF he really is sick, disappear! Don't be seen for a while. Yes if your are sick you can sit at a table at the golden globes and smile, but it sends out the wrong message. Either way here hes wrong. I know i'm happy I saw Norbert Leo Butz, and I wouldn't trade him for Piven EVER!
This is what I live for! haha
Def the two funniest things are:
1) "warned by his physicians that enforced rest was necessary in order to avoid serious medical problems"
So, is going to Bangkok and the Golden Globes "enforced rest"?
2) "His symptoms included... difficulty remembering his lines"
Is THAT a medical symptom. "Yes, doctor I have nausea, congestion and difficulty remembering my lines. What could it be?" LIES!
Mercury Poisoning Symptoms:
1. Psychological disturbances
Angry fits, short term memory loss, low self esteem, inability to sleep, loss of self-control, sleepiness. Loss of an ability to learn new things, doing things by rote.
2. Oral Cavity problems
Inflammation of the mouth, loss of bone around teeth, ulcerated gums and other areas in the mouth, loose teeth, darkening of gums, taste of metal, bleeding of gums.
3. Digestive tract problems
Cramps, inflamed colon, GI problems, Diarrhea and other digestive problems.
4. Cardiovascular problems
Weak pulse, blood pressure changes, chest pain, or feeling of pressure in the chest area.
5. Respiratory problems

6 Neurological Problems

and apparently.
7. Difficulty remembering lines.
Could fall into the "Neurological Problems" section.
Also, is it me or are the symptoms you just posted Bobby like every single "minor" symptom one could have. Stomach, head, psych, neuro, mouth, blood, respiratory.... what else? If you have any cold or disease it could be mercury poisoning under these symptoms!!!
I know that Bobby, it would actually probably fall under the "Psychological Disturbances - Short Term Memory Loss" category. But, I thought it was hilarious that Piven's statements said symptoms and included "difficulty remembering his lines"... saying "short term memory loss" would have sounded much better and significantly more "medical"
Hence why I think mercury poisoning from fish is a myth.
I've eaten sushi for years and years and years on a regular basis. I'm picky about where I get it from and tend to only go for a few pieces of each item. Perhaps Piven was popping Tuna Roles like they were candy.

A person could easily be admitted to a hospital on a Sunday evening after 6 pm and discharged on a Tuesday afternoon. Do you know what an insurance company would consider that? A 3-day stay in the hospital.
Do we think he discharged at any time during his absense?
Didn't Raul say that he just didn't show up and they didn't know where he was?
I doubt he'll ever be seen on Broadway or perhaps any stage after this mess.

It doesn't matter at this point. You had Mamet being sarcastic when it all went down (surprise, surprise), Raul bringing it up again and again, and members of the public regurgitating what they heard until it "became" the truth. Who knows what the truth is, but people are dismissing things out of hand as if the things that Piven said could not POSSIBLY have happened, even though they could have.
He could have gone in the hospital for three days (technically) and not missed a performance until he quit. He could have been forgetting lines because of a neurological problem the result of mercury poisoning. He could have sat at an awards show or travelled while not well.
You're right, he could have been in the hospital 3 days. But how could he have done this without anyone from the production knowing?
Yeah, what Namo says is true. For example, I'm not well, and I'm here posting on BWW.
Oh, wait, being unwell is a requisite for posting here, isn't it?
Umm, international travel is a stressful event. If he was as sick as he claimed going to bangkok was not something he would have done.
Thank you, Namo. That's what I was trying to say.

My brother-in-law thinks he's hiding another medical issue that he doesn't want to say for some reason, either because it's too embarassing or something serious. Mercury poisoning wouldn't cause all that Pivens said it would.
Oh, I should add that my brother-in-law is a doctor.

No, if YOU were as sick as he claimed to be, going to Bangkok is not something YOU would have done.
I'm surprised that people aren't more understanding of how non-linear human thought is when it comes to illness. The power of the psyche's denial mechanism; the "I'll just push myself through this" aspect of the more testosterone drenched of the species.
