The last time I attended a tribute like this was for Gower Champion many years ago. I recall just walking into the theater without a ticket. However, I no longer trust my memory after my stroke.
Will there be tickets sold for the Herman tribute next month?

Was wondering this as well and how early should one plan on arriving?

Dollypop...I've never met you, but I’ve enjoyed reading your posts over the years.
I hope, come hell or high water, you’re able to get yourself into the Jerry Herman tribute!

That's a great question. Were there tickets sold for the Harold Prince tribute a few weeks ago? I'd imagine the process might be similar? I've never gone to any of these special events before.

If it’s any help to anyone, people waited outside the Majestic for about an hour to get into the Prince memorial. No tickets unless the family and friends organizing had reserved a seat for you already. While there were a lot of invited guests, there was ample space for everyone who wanted to be there.

I'm a little surprised this isn't at the St. James.

I've gone to a couple of these in the past, and usually there is no charge, and no tickets to reserve. You just show up (well in advance for this one, probably). Once time is announced, you can plan appropriately. Since these are during daytime, workday hours, many who might like to attend are not able to, so usually seating is available for everyone who shows up. I'm planning to go to this one - Jerry Herman has always been one of all all-time favorite composers, and one of the rare ones who beautifully wrote both music and lyrics...

Posted: 1/21/20 at 1:33pmI was able to get on the guest list for this event. Does that mean I’m guaranteed a seat? I’d have to fly in and out of NYC on the same day and trying to see if I should clear my schedule to be there.

Probably better to ask the person who put you on that guest list.

According to an article in Variety, this is by invitation only.

This one's invite-only but the Hal Prince memorial was not? How strange.

FWIW, for Elaine Stritch I believe there was a lottery. I was lucky enough to be my friend's +1.

You do realize that you have to RSVP, if you haven't already done so.
For those willing to try their luck at last minute seating, the memorial starts at 3 pm.

I’m currently in line. Someone from Nederlander security(?) came out and said that it was going to be RSVP only and no one not on the list would get in. He also mentioned that 1200 tickets were given out.
No one left the line, but it doesn’t look too hopeful. I’m disappointed I likely won’t be able to see the memorial, but not totally surprised.

Got in!
Edit: the mezz was pretty much empty so I’m guessing that all of the people waiting in line (I would estimate about 50-60?) got in.

Posted: 2/3/20 at 8:23pmMemorial are always in the afternoon on Broadway. Yes,those on standby line all got admitted to the mezzanine at the Lunt Fontanne theatre. They were discouraged from waiting by the security guards outside over and over again. Interesting there were a lot of empty seats upstairs because of fear of not getting in, so many didn't bother.Heard it was amazing and with a 26 piece orchestra starting the Memorial off. The event is mentioned on the other theatre site ATC in more detail.
