I’ll do the job for free theatre tickets and train tickets to and from Philly.
I have strong opinions about shows that people often disagree with and zero social media presence. I’m perfect for the job!

NY Times advertises for classical music critic
https://slippedisc.com/2025/08/ny-times-advertises-for-classical-music-critic/
So they want an expert in classical music with 5 or more years of journalism experience who is also ready to present reviews on TikTok and Instagram and be interviewed on podcasts.
That person doesn’t exist. Good luck, Times.

I see the Classical Music critic will get between $125k-$170, I might as well stay as a stagehand.

Yikes. Are there really people who scoff at that salary range? I've never even approached half of the lower end.

I'm just guessing he won't be able to get comp tickets at Broadway shows anymore?"
Don't be too happy for him just yet. "Assigned a new role" in corporate speak should never be taken literally. If they truly wanted him in a new role, they would have already decided what that new role is and discussed it with him before announcing anything. More than likely, you'll never hear what that new role is until one day sometime in the next 3-6 months if not sooner, a short announcement will be released:."Jesse Green has decided to leave the New York Times to pursue new opportunities. We thank him for his contributions to the Times and wish him well with his future endeavors."

"We at the NYT have looked at Jesse Green's body of work, and we're giving him no stars. He is no longer, as you might say, a NYT Critic Pick."
