Loved her in The Help. Am very excited to see her onstage.
She was truly excellent in The Help. I wonder if she'll be getting an Oscar nomination?
With Golden Globe and SAG nominations and some major critic awards wins, I'd say her being nominated is almost a guarantee. (I just hope she's nominated for THE HELP and not TREE OF LIFE)

We who saw Cherry might have a hard time with this(that performance was mind-blowing), I wish her well.

She is incredibly talented and this is very very exciting casting news, as far as I'm concerned.
I know it was 16 years ago, but that Cherry Jones revival is still so fresh in many people's memories, it seems a strange choice to revive this again.
But then, I thought it was superfluous to revive Guys and Dolls and How To Succeed again...
This so exciting! I love her...after her stellar year in film, I can only imagine how excellent she must be on stage.
ADORED Jessica in The Help. Really excited for this one.
Fantastic actress and this is great news. Fine play and I don't think 16 years is too soon to revive it again, but has it really been that long? Wow!
She was superb in The Debt, I've heard she's wonderful in Take Shelter but I have no problem for her getting nominated for her charming performance in The Help. Chastain and Octavia Spencer, who is sure to be nominated, were terrific in their scenes together. What a year this woman has had and what versatility she has shown!
Dream cast: Geoffrey Rush as Sloper, Patricia Clarkson as Aunt Pennyman and Lee Pace as Morris.
Cannot wait to see Jessica in this! Loved Cherry of course but I think Jessica ia a great choice!
The Heiress is a terrific play, and Cherry Jones gave a performance for the ages. One of those "gifts" to New York. I think Jessica could be very good, but very different. After seeing her awkward vulnerability in The Help, plus seeing her play such varied roles, I think she'll do a great job.
YAY!! So excited about this! I've been on the Jessica bandwagon all year and couldn't be happier to think I'll be able to see her on stage soon.
If I had my way she would be nominated for Tree of Life (supporting) and Take Shelter (leading).

Chastain is a wonderful actress and given her training, she's no stranger to the stage. I think bringing her in is one of those unexpected surprises that I think could create a great production! She's a completely different actress from Cherry Jones, and talented enough that she could do great things with a part like this.
I love the idea of Patricia Clarkson as Aunt Pennyman, in fact, after reading Henrik's suggestion there's no one else I'd want to see in the role. Someone get her on the phone right away!
Exciting news. In addition to the outstanding film work already mentioned, I loved her in The Debt.
The Heiress is one of those "plays from the past" that had been all but forgotten before the '90s revival with Cherry Jones. That production showed exactly how relevant and powerful it still is for today's audiences.
The play has aged very well. No reason not to revive it yet again and with an actress up to the challenge of playing Catherine. I look forward to seeing who rounds out the cast.
Chastain is a revelation. I don't know how she, to those who never heard of her a year ago, seemingly came out of nowhere - I'm sure that's an oversimplification as she seems a highly trained actress with prior credits of course - made a slew of films and aced all of them. More importantly, she seems to be able to do absolutely anything form comedy to drama, and her dialect work in The Debt was highly impressive (bad movie but great cast and she was wonderful).
I have always admired Meryl Streep though have never been the kind of fanatic (you know the kind who praises her as if she's, undoubtedly, the greatest living actress), but in terms of the scope and breadth of the talent evident from Chastain, she seems as if she could have a career equal to Streep's in scope, breadth, skill and longevity.
I would say Amy Adams is equally capable of slipping in and out of accents, comedy, drama, and even musicals, in her case.
I don't have to crown "the new Meryl" just yet as these "new" actresses are coming into their own. Besides, the old Meryl is doing just fine.
So happy for her success! She was in the same Juilliard class as my best friend so I feel like I vicariously went to school with her and "knew her back when".
I remember seeing her in a play with Al Pacino called Wilde Salome. She is fantastic on stage!! If I'm in NY during it's run, this show will be on my list of plays to see.

I love Amy Adams as well best12 and I don't feel any strong need to crown the new Meryl or put the current one out to pasture. All I was saying is that Chastain's career could be similar to Streep's (I used the word "equal"). I didn't say or intend to say that no one else's could be similar to Streep's, much less to imply that Streep's was over.
