I would LOVE to see John perform live. If the producers want to put him in the Chicago production I won't complain. lol.

I didn't just read this stuff off BWW or a fan site and repeat it here. I've never been on a JLY website.
I heard it from people around him, mutual friends, which is why I didn't say "well, I read he was like this now..."
Doesn't matter, be a fan of his. I don't care. These are my personal reasons. My opinion.
I don't know about the other facts of the situation, but he was in fact dating Lea Michele.
I'd love to see him come back to Jersey Boys. I love Jarrod Spector, but JLY really was incredible.

It is no secret they were dating. It also is no secret he has changed his entire wardrobe, gotten a tattoo, a tan, trying to bulk up, and seems to think he is the coolest thing LA has ever seen. Obviously other guys have ran off and found lil' girlfriends, but maybe they were never the poster kids for "nicest guy on Broadway" that JLY liked to portray himself as. I, again, am not saying he is not talented. I think he is, but a good majority of the reason I liked him so much was because of who he was as a person. Being that has changed, and also that he is no longer producing any good work (or any at all), I can honestly say I am no longer a fan of his and think many others should ask themselves if they like the "new JLY"
I wrote a very long note to John Lloyd Young a few years back and asked for a signed photo, and about two weeks later I got an envelope containing a signed headshot, a signed playbill, and a very nice (and very long) card. So, I refuse to believe that he turned into a jerk.
Considering what else has been said in this thread, I think your phrase "a few years back" should be noted.
(No opinion on JLY as a person, FWIW...)
I know, I know. But, I still refuse to believe he has turned into a major jerk until I have been proven wrong.
If he didn't get the role of Og in the revival of
FINIAN'S RAINBOW,
What's left?

LizzieCurry, thanks for pointing out the key words "a few years" back. So spot on.
Wickedmimi, you wrote that he did some personal things that you didn't like.
Are you friends with him...did he stab you in the back, end the friendship, etc? What exactly did he do to you?

Despite all the rumors, the idea of him returning came from his mouth (meaning he needs the work).
I can't see why they would ask him back, the show is making money and they don't need him or his baggage.
But as he says, his fans follow him all over.
I hope the tatoo doesn't say Lea or he's gonna have a scar.
This is just speculation, as I'm acquaintances with both parties, but I think one of the main riffs is that JLY was dating someone for a really long time, and then went to LA and became pretty much a completely different person, and starting dating Lea, the hot young actress of the moment, who actually went to LA and got a pilot. While I think what JLY did in JERSEY BOYS was absolutely perfect, he doesn't really fit as a screen/TV actor. Once Lea was settling into "Glee", that's the last I heard of their relationship.
Maybe LA changed him, maybe Lea (who's definitely not the nicest/most exemplary person) did, but he's definitely a different person than he was before. As wicked_mimi said, JLY was all about fan contact before, and only lately has that contact increased.
Curtainpullerdowner, JLY is an actor who needs work...like so many actors do. If he wants to go back to JERSEY, good for him. He needs the work and needs to keep his benefits.
You are absolutely correct nealb, and putting it out there
that he would return is his way to do that.
But the producers are not begging him back.
And as far as returning fanmail, his lost his
"unofficial" secretary in charge of sending back.

I think it would be great if he came back to Jersey Boys.
Hell, Yul Brynner played the King of Siam for how long?

The idea that someone can be in a show for a couple of weeks here or there is silly. It would take too much rehearsal time for a limited time appearance. He'd have to commit to doing it for a few months. Would tickets sell better with him in it? No. The show sells well everywhere without John Lloyd or it wouldn't still be playing Broadway and other locations. I don't think Jersey Boys will make anyone into a star. It's not that type of show. Even guys playing Frankie are boxed in by the material. It's not like playing Mama Rose in Gypsy or something.
So what happened during Broadway Bares? Don't leave us hanging!
Wait, what, blaxx?
I cannot believe this baseless character assassination. I happen to have met John socially several times and he is one of the nicest, kindest and most down-to- earth Broadway stars I have ever met (and I have met most). John goes out of his way to talk to each and every fan, pose for photos and sign autographs. Every time I see him, he gives me a hug and takes time to chat with me (even though I'm not in the business and he would have nothing to gain from being nice to me). He even takes time to have lunch with his fan club.
John came out to LA because he wanted to make a living doing TV/film work. I don't see you guys blasting Cheno, Taye Diggs or Audra for doing the same thing.
Since coming to LA, John has volunteered his time in various charity events and has mentored young artists for free.
I'm not going to talk about his personal life, but it is evident that people on on this board do not know the all details of the circumstances of him dating Lea Michele and it's frankly none of their business.

Um, yes it is.
Well, even if it was your business, you obviously don't know all the facts so please don't spread half-truths and malicious rumors.

I met JLY ONCE at the stage door...not by choice, I was with a friend who was meeting a castmember. I want to say it was right before the strike. While he definitely was signing autographs and posing for pictures, he really gave off the aura of someone who thinks he's doing people a favor. And he looked a bit put off that I didn't ask him for an autograph or a picture. He seemed rather narcissistic to me.

Unlike JLY, the above people have actually worked successfully in LA. And none of them went expecting huge success.
"Since coming to LA, John has volunteered his time in various charity events and has mentored young artists for free."
Because we know how artists are more important than homeless people and sick children.

I knew he was a bad actor, but to have such bad taste in women is even more surprising.
