I switched my tickets from a performance last month to last night (saturday 2/12) to see Jordan Fisher in Dear Evan Hansen, and he was not in the show. :/ Just to satisfy my own curiosity and temper my disappointment, does anyone know why he was out?

He’s out so much. I booked for the first week back thinking surely that would be safe, but he was out. I just went ahead and saw it because he seems impossible to catch. I have seen others on Twitter who have tried 3-4 times moving their tickets with no luck.
I’d still like to see him, thinking about grabbing tickets whenever his final show is announced.

He is out on vocal rest this week.
He should be back sometime next week!

Oh, really? Do you know the history of his vocal training? Vocal issues aren’t always the result of poor or limited training. The strongest athletes get injured, the healthiest people get sick, and the most accomplished singers experience vocal issues.

His performance schedule has been horrible since he joined the show pre-COVID. Most have yet to see his performance as he’s out of the show for regular long stretches. No other actor who has played the role has been out so consistently therefore it is safe to assume he can’t handle to material vocally. Nathan Lane had nodes on his vocal cords during his run in THE PRODUCERS and only missed a few performances. He wasn’t out for weeks at a time like Jordan Fisher has been.

When I saw him pre-pandemic, he was perfection. He sung the score more beautifully that I had ever heard it before. But, he may be able to do that just like four times a week and in that case, like Ben did, he needs an alternate. Also, his wife is pregnant and based on the West Coast, so he might be needed back there as well. He really is worth seeing, if you can catch him!

Jordan does have an alternate (Zachary Noah Piser, who is fantastic) as does every actor who plays Evan which began fairly early in the Broadway run when it became clear that Evan was too taxing of a role to do 8 times a week. They even have it pre-scheduled and indicated on the website when the alternate performs - Zach is planned for the weekend matinees.
I guess I'm lucky because I've seen Jordan 3 times since reopen and he really does an incredible job in the role and really throws so much into it. His voice is gorgeous and he sings the heck out of it, but the role is still incredibly taxing even on the most trained singer and actor.
I hope he's okay and resting up, because he really does a wonderful job in the role and I hope those of you who want to see him get to.

Not really. It was around 8 months of Ben doing the role on Broadway that he finally changed his schedule to six times a week. And Jordan might need an alternate that splits the role with him is what I was saying. Not just weekend matinees.

I wasn't sure what the time frame was specifically on when Ben changed his schedule, but I presumed it was fairly early on.
I mean that would ultimately be up to Jordan and the show itself, but considering there's already an alternate system in place I'm not sure how much they would be willing to change it.
They also up until just recently had 2 days off a week [Monday and Tuesday] but the show has now moved back to doing Tuesday evening shows. They removed the Wednesday matinee and now have 2 show Sundays which I feel like all of that was to help give Jordan some more time off in general.

Perhaps Broadway composers should start writing scores that can be sung 8 times a week.
Mary Martin, John Raitt, Alfred Drake, Bernadette Peters, Joel Grey and Ethel Merman never needed alternates because their music was written by composers who respected the human voice.

Is it definitely vocal rest? I will say he keeps popping up in guest stars spots here and there, could be also be outside work keeping him busy. I can imagine it being part of him returning post-shutdown was allowing him to take off.

Someone else on the thread mentioned they were able to exchange them due to Jordan being out, so I'm sure you would be able to as well. Plus, the flexible exchange policy for Covid makes it fairly easy in general.
everythingtaboo - I think a lot of his guest appearances [like The Flash I know was] were filmed prior to rehearsals for DEH beginning. I also figured they held off reopening to allow Jordan to get those types of commitments taken care of before returning to the show.

This worked for me w/ Little Shop of Horrors. Conrad was out at the last minute when I got there and box office said I can exchange my tix for another performance.

No swapping lottery dates, you win on that date, no exceptions. Just go and enjoy the show, don't stress about who is on or not.

I was there the evening of Dec 29 and Zachary Noah Piser was on. He was fabulous. I was there this past Thursday night via Audience Rewards points and Josh Strobl was on. I had an early flight the next day so left at intermission. I wish I had known you could exchange tickets. Not sure I'll try this again though.
