Wouldn't her later life (not early life) make for a more interesting musical?

Sucks that the ensemble was replaced. Had a friend in this and he was very excited to take this to Broadway.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Just based on the one biography I read (Get Happy by Gerald Clark) there's just as much there in her early life to use. You have the domineering stage mother, her closeted father, the studio conditions and abuses that put her on her lifelong path of addiction, and even just the struggle to get MGM to see what they had in her and how to properly utilize her talents. My concern would be that it could end up feeling like a rehash of Gypsy, but especially with the domineering mother pushing their child towards stardom and fame and sharing, at least in part, the vaudeville backdrop.

Already happened back in 2012. Direct from London, it played the Belasco Theatre.
