Just announced....Diana Degarmo

For anyone in the San Francisco Bay Area (or even those who are not)...it was just announced by the American Musical Theatre of San Jose that they have cast Diana Degarmo as Maria in their upcoming production of West Side Story. When I read it, my only was, "Really? Wow..."

Any thoughts or opinions?

grrrr Diana is NOT chubby, she is a perfectly normal-sized, beautiful, talented girl! I think this is really cool news, even if she isn't Puerto RIcan...I can't wait to see reviews!!

I think she has some form of a latin blood line....my ex was obsessed with her during AI season 3.........I could care less though.

Vocally, her pop style doesn't automatically strike me as "Maria", but if she can pull it off, best of luck to her

Yeah, I'd like to hear her belt Tonight. She'll probably have to cut out the top octave of all of Maria's songs. Diana as Belle is one thing (and it didn't happen). But Maria!!!!! No way. There's NOTHING legit about that voice.

I was a big Degarmo fan (no pun intended) during AI3, however I don't get this casting.

I may still go see it out of sheer curiosity.

I wonder if she was also up for Kim in production of Miss Saigon?

She is practically a normal weight, but the clothes she wears are VERY unflattering. Anyone can look 'chubby' wearing clothes that are too tight for them.
