Wait...is someone holding Tamyra Grey up as a great actress?

So it's now Meryl Streep, Julianne Moore and Tamyra Grey?

I've seen VERY GOOD actresses with fabulous voices completely crippled by the 'How many bullets...' monologue. It ain't easy. Especially for a newcomer!

How about we just make a law that anyone from the finals of AI isn't allowed to act. You all do remember the Kelly and Justin "movie" or did we block that out as a nation?

Yeah -- Tamyra was great as an African American woman playing an Indian woman in Bombay Dreams. She totally pulled it off!

i agree, but i saw tamyra on tru calling once and she was in no way shape or form the worst acress ive ever seen. i was jsut using her as an example, you wouldnt think she could act at all. peple just see diana as an AI contestant, and then consider it stunt casting. no one stops to think if diana can act. so tamyra was just an example. a better example i could use is mandy moore. shes got a great voice, and in a walk to remember she gave an amazing acting performance. diana could have the ability to do it, but nobody knows for sure and they bash her. im just trying to look at it that way.

Generally, you don't START in musical theatre with Maria. You start with, I don't know, Maid #3 in Annie? Then, if you can handle that, you go to Ado Annie. Then you might do Annie Oakley. But there are a LOT of parts to go through before you get to Maria.

That bullets monologue is like a newborn. You have to be delicate with it. I'd love to see it if it gets to the level of so bad you just have to see it to believe it. This musical is a masterpiece and deserves more than this. Seriously, just cast her in the SF premier of BKLYN and leave this to professionals.

Seriously though. BKLYN requires no acting and AI level screaming. Just put together a touring cast and book them into arena. Perfect venue for all of them. And was I the only one who prefered nails on a chalkboard to Fantasia singing? Her summertime was just a disgrace.

now fantasia would be great in BKLYN. diana never screamed like that. and need i remind everyone diana IS only 17? and keep in mind that she DID have to audition for this role. so to be a 17 year old AI runner up to audition for maria in west side story, and get the part, probably beating out a lot of seasoned professionals, she mustve been doing SOMETHING right.

I will give her that, she is only 17. I never hated her on AI, I just wasn't impressed. Of course when she stood next to Fantasia she looked a million times better. I just hated Fantasia that much. Nell Carter, who some compare her too, sold that voice with every ounce of her and it just was a part of her and no hard to listen to. Fantasia sounded like someone was putting her tit in a vice and twisting it.

Folks, you don't have to be Puerto Rican to play Maria. There are people called dialect coaches. I just saw a professional production of West Side Story last night and not one actress was Puerto Rican...they were wonderful!

Look plain and simple as un PC as this sounds if ya wanna be in this business you have to have "the look." That normally means being thin and pretty. I'm not saying that there aren't exemptions from the rule but they are few and far between. Most people that have broken the rule also have incredible talent to back them up. I'm sorry but Diana doesn't show signs of that as of yet.

Besides, what is a 17 year old doing playing Maria!?!?
