Karen's last performance is on Sunday from a really reliable source.

I second Drunk Chita's "what source?"
And don't you think there would've been an announcement? If she did get it, which is unlikely, she would've had to give her notice like last week. She has a contract that lasts through February for Heights, so could that be broken on that notice, *if* she did get Anita?

Posted: 10/24/08 at 11:36pmThis person who I heard it from works at the theater. I went by there because we are "friendly" and I asked them about it and they confirmed it to me. They haven't picked her replacement yet.

Since when is that unlikely? People do that a lot.

Posted: 10/25/08 at 1:50amI don't believe anything till there is an official article out there. Because anyone can come out and say I heard from a friend or the actor told me etc etc.

Pretty sure someone here said that the producers are the same on both shows (at least the lead ones) so it wouldn't be no prob, most likely, to release her from one contract for another.
IF it were to happen that quickly, the understudies were cover the role for a bit.
Maybe this will be great news for one of them. I've heard that Krysta is great in the role, maybe she'll get bumped.

We all know that she will be eventually leaving, we are trying to figure out when.

Posted: 10/25/08 at 12:23pmI went to a workshop with Jeffrey Seller this week and he confirmed that Karen Olivo is playing Anita. They brought her in for the first time last week and cast her, and since the producers are the same they were able to release her from her ITH contract. Her final performance will be tomorrow, and she will start WSS rehearsals on Monday morning.

Posted: 10/25/08 at 2:18pmMight be a dumb question, but for one of the leads don't they have to give more notice than just this? I know with Lin it was announced months before his departure. Obviously Lin had more to do with the show than Karen, but I still can't imagine they would just have her finish it this weekend with no announcement whatsoever. Another question: what is Krysta like in the role of Vanessa? I saw her originally as Nina and was totally blown away, but Vanessa has SUCH a completely different voice and hits these skyscraper notes, I just don't know what Krysta is like in that role. Regardless I will be seeing this before Lin leaves in February, but still I'm just confused how they can do that.

Posted: 10/25/08 at 2:22pmSince they have the same producers, I think that would allow for the short notice. And as far as public announcement, that depends on the person. If her final performance is tomorrow, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw some kind of release about it tomorrow morning.

Posted: 10/25/08 at 2:24pmOh yeah that would make sense since it's the same producers (and the same Lin writing Spanish lyrics for both shows - cramazing) and all. Once again, thank you dancingthrulife04. So many questions, such helpful answers. :)

Posted: 10/25/08 at 2:27pmI'm so sad I can't be there tomorrow. Karen and Lin were my favorite actors in In the heights.

#49re: Karen Olivo leaving In the Heights?
Posted: 10/25/08 at 2:33pmWell I'm gathering it's either her or Janet, and as much as I think Janet would be amazing, that would require bumping up two people as opposed to just one.
