I'm sorry, I love Krysta, and I'm sure she'll be bumped up, but just because we all speculated it would happen doesn't mean it's "confirmed".
But I am PSYCHED for Karen in WSS.

I still would have loved to see Natalie Cortez as Anita...did they not cast Anita until this week when Karen was notified?
Details please! :)
I would have loved to see Natalie as Anita but she said a while ago that she wouldn't be involved.
If Karen is Anita (which it's looking like she is), then yes, they didn't cast Anita until this week.

Thanks, without you!
&& dancing, i was aware of that. I was just saying I wish she was ...
Gotcha. And I agree.
I think there's something fishy about this. I won't buy it or get excited until I see it posted all over playbill.com or the NYT.
I agree that there is something fishy about this. I would LOVE for her to play Anita. It could possibly be true. I mean they have only announced Tony and Maria. I would really like to know who Riff and Bernardo are. Actually when you look at it. The playbill article about Scaglione as Maria had a ? mark in it. And they only say Matt Cavenaugh was OFFERED the role. Yes, it most likely is these people. But I REALLY WANT TO KNOW THIS CAST.
Well, since it "suppose" to start rehearsals on Monday, I suppose we can expect PR then. I certainly hope so.

my friends...i have good and bad news from the stage door. karen olivo's last show is in fact tomorrow night october 26th...good news is that she also confirmed wss! i figure i'd see her in it again before shes gone in case it was true and it was : idk why they're like trying to keep it a secret tho? lol
THANK YOU GOD FOR CASTING THIS AMAZING WOMAN AS ANITA!!!!!!!!!!!! So glad I got to see her last wednesday in In The Heights! she was fantastic!!
That both makes me so happy and at the same time kind of angry. Not at anyone in particular and certainly not at Karen, but still - I feel since she originated the role of Vanessa and that show means so much to those involved, and the people it touches. I don't know, I just wish there had been more of announcement of sorts that she's gone so soon. I'm just happy I got to see her in ITH and tell her how amazing she was. And back in late July when I went to stagedoor ITH I actually told her how much I thought she would make an amazing hypothetical Anita, simply because she blew me away with her performance and I had recently seen West Side Story (the movie). This was before I even knew they were working on a revival for this, so it's like the perfect dream casting coming true for me. So yeah, color me happy with a shade of remorse on the last-minute notice.
that is awesome to hear! cannot wait to see her.

Aw, that means I will never get to see her Vanessa. She out when I saw ITH back in August. Janet went on in the role, but she was just ok. I wish I saw Krysta as Vanessa, not as Carla. =/
And I guess that means my mom's friend's brother's girlfriend didn't get Anita. It was between her and Karen.

they have been seeing "anita's" for a long time now. they just couldn't find what they wanted. it is the hardest role in the show...they just offered it to her last week. so, it DID take them that long.
I wondered if they offered Bianca Marroquin the understudy/standby for the role. She was in the final callbacks too.
Isn't Bianca going on the new Chicago tour?
Yeah, back in September.

Edit: THOUGH, if she chooses to do WSS, hopefully Lindsay Roginiski can take over. She is playing one of the Cell Block Girls & starred (Uh-Amazingly) as Roxie in the recent Non-Eq tour.

Is there a 7pm show tonight? Because I just checked ticketmaster and it only had a 2pm show listed...
Well, if everything happened the way all the talk says...there isn't a way to really have made a public announcement. I'm sure they were more concerened about having the role covered appropriately then they were about telling folks.
I'm sure Karen has lots of fans (I loved her in ITH) but would her departure have garnered a huge reaction? (I'm just asking)
Perhaps they all thought it best since there was so little time just to let it go by the wayside...maybe Karen herself didn't WANT a big deal over it.
Double post...sorry.
I was listening to an interview with her on Broadway Bullet and it seems like shes very humble, so I could see her not wanting to make a big deal out of her leaving.
