Word from elsewhere is that Janet Dacal and Krysta Rodriguez will alternate the role of Vanessa until a permanent replacement is found, with Asmeret Ghebremichael taking over Rodriguez's ensemble track when she is on as either Vanessa or Carla.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
Janet is on tonight. Krysta will probably get next week.

Janet was wonderful when I saw her on for Vanessa. Can't say the same about Krysta.
I think it's absurd that there still is no press release from the WEST SIDE STORY people regarding any casting.
Definitely. This all seems rather rushed at the last minute for such a high-profile revival. One week between vague message board rumors and Karen's final performance, and still not even a hint about Bernardo and Riff? There's more casting news about shows opening next season than there is about the show already in rehearsals.

there have been hints as to who is riff--but who can know anything until the official announcement? this board seemed pretty certain that kate rockwell was sandy on the grease tour but that turned out to be a wash. anyway, one would imagine in this day and age, now that olivo has been cast, the official announcement would have followed. i mean, if the production has any marque names, wouldn't you want to use them to amp up sales?
just goes to show you can't rush a 90 year old man...
Im new to this blogging thing but I heard from a friend that at the IN THE HEIGHTS audition this week, she heard Karen Rodriguez was there, reading over sides for Vanessa. Karen Rodriguez is a known spanish singer in the heights, who became a finalist in the Spanish version of American Idol "Objetivo Fama." She looks the part and sings really good. I know about her because my mom watched the show and voted for her. I posted her myspace here www.myspace.com/karenrodriguezmusic Lets see what happens! Ill keep you guys posted!

For what it's worth, Marcy Harriell was in the audience at the show on Sunday afternoon.

She's beautiful. I didn't know who she was but I just checked her site out and she looks great in the pics from WEST SIDE STORY, RENT, and CANDIDE that she has on. Is she Hispanic? From the look of her website it looks like she is pretty good friends with Mandy Gonzales, so it'll be nice to see their on stage chemistry in the show. Did anyone see her in LENNON?
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
I saw her in Lennon- she only had one real moment to shine, but shine she did- blew the ROOF off the theater. She was even better in Company- her Another Hundred People is on a site that we can name and its absolutely beautiful.
She played Mimi for something like two years after Daphne left, and was widely destested by RENTheads, who then fell in love with her and complained when SHE left too. I thought her Mimi was fine, but certainly not the best- dull vocals. But if she sings Vanessa the way she performed in Lennon or Company- wow.
