Kelli O'Hara

Posted: 8/20/05 at 9:33amIf you ask me, the Tony commitee should have deemed her eligible for Best Leading Actress instead of Featured Actress. She was my favorite performer in Piazza (I think Victoria Clark is a tad overrated), and in the Leading Actress category she probably would have won. If she stayed in Featured Actress, then it should have been a tie with Sara Ramiriz (I enjoyed them both).

No. Janine LaManna would've taken her place. hah! in my dreams.
Anyway, Victoria still would've fun. This WAS her year.

Kelli should have won Featured.
She wouldn't have won leading.

I think Kelli was indeed a supporting actress. To me, "Piazza" was Margaret's story more so that Clara's, because Margaret had to grow more so than Clare. IMO.
I thought Kelli was brilliant and I was very disappointed that she didn't win.

Posted: 9/15/05 at 11:06pmI think Kelli should have won the Tony as well...but her time will come. She is definitely a future Tony Award winner.

Posted: 9/15/05 at 11:18pmKelli O'Hara was my pick for Best Featured Actress. Sara Ramirez does a fine job in Spamalot, but Kelli is radiant in Piazza. Her time for a Tony win will indeed come.

Posted: 9/15/05 at 11:21pmI loved Kelli in Piazza, but Sara Ramirez deserved that Tony. I just saw Spamalot again tonight and she's still giving a Tony worthy performance. Sure, the role of the Lady of the Lake isn't as sketched out and complex as Clara in Piazza, but Ramirez steals the show. I wouldn't have enjoyed Spam without Sara.

I think Kelli should have won based on the fact that she really was playing a "lead in disguise"...Clark was the lead, but Kelli had just as much to accomplish in the show, and she is a MAJOR component of the show...
It reminds me of when Jennifer Connely was nominated for an Oscar for best supporting actress for her work in A Beautiful Mind, and she was a sure thing because her role was really a leading role...
Kelli's performance goes beyond the "featured" category IMO.

Posted: 9/16/05 at 3:27ami think sara ramirez only won because of the buzz she had from out-of-town to new york. kelli obviously didn't play the role until the show premiered in new york. sara was basically promised a tony in chicago last december. every single person i know who saw spam out-of-town, including the critics, said that there was no way she couldn't win. she simply had too, because she made a bad show good. kelli didn't have all that said about her for months leading up to the tony's. that's it.

Kelli is very young - she has a LONG time to win a Tony. She'll most likely have repeated nominations over the years and surely will deserve one.
Victoria was very deserving of her award because it is Margaret's story, as previously stated in this thread, because her character grows more than any other in the show. I loved the entire cast and believe they all should win awards, - but this was Victoria's year.

Great talent! Fantasic in Piazza! Usually I find her somewhat of a cool performer. (i.e very little in the way of personal warmth)
Just my opinion, I may be wrong.

Posted: 9/16/05 at 3:13pmI don't claim to have an opinion about who should have won what at the Tony's; however, the mom is definitely the lead actress from this show. It was appropriate to have O'Hara in the Featured category.

I adore Kelli, but she will have her time. She will win at some point.
I still think Sara deserves all the credit she is given for Spamalot. She's definately deserved the Tony this year.
