This isn't the first time Kelly Clarkson has mentioned wanting to do Broadway, but it's the most recent time. She seems very interested but indicates that it's something she'd want to do further down the road.

Thoughts? She can sing the phonebook, so I'd love to hear her take on a classic Bway score.

Posted: 11/10/11 at 4:36pmI agree she does have a great voice, but what would you like to see her play? If that film she did a few years back is any indication of her talent as an actor...I think she needs more training.

"Justin Loves Kelly" (I think it was called) was thrown together in a matter of weeks to capitalize on the surprising popularity of AI. IIRC it was written by AI's producer's wife. I wouldn't hold it against a couple of kids in their early 20s who had no experience and little apparent direction.

I absolutely agree, LALALand. We don't know if she can act. I just wouldn't hold that one film against her. (I didn't really think she was so terrible in it when one considered the atrocious script.)
And, Betty, it isn't just AI alums that Broadway embraces, it's TV and movie has-beens in general.
But you can't really blame people for making all the money they can in mass media before "settling" for several thou a week on Broadway.

Isn't Clarkson very open about how she "can't act?"
In fact, she said recently that she wants to guest star on PARKS & RECREATION as a bad actress at a community theater in order to compensate for her lack of personal ability.

...aaaaaaand, i just turned on my TV to find that "From Justin to Kelly" is playing on the very channel I was watching last time my TV was on.
Weird, considering I read this thread for the first time about three minutes ago.
Oh, and hi, Anika Noni Rose.

Kelly's no actress, and that's something she proudly admits. But, theater is different. I think she could manage something like Annie Get Your Gun.
I think its just a matter of having the time. She's still selling albums and touring the world, though she's not the type of person who would do Broadway as a last ditch effort of sorts.
Also, her new album is flawless. :)

If Kelly Clarkson ever did Wicked I would have to "occupy" the Gershwin lobby. In other words, live there.
Having seen her in concert, singing like a monster for 2+ hours, I think she could actually make it through a run without shredding her voice.
An average actor/great singer is a-ok for Elphaba.

I'd love to see Kelly Clarkson on "Parks and Rec." Especially if she mixes it up with Nick Offerman's Ron Effin' Swanson.
Yup, there was a widely circulated video clip of Kelly Clarkson singing Fiona's "Waitin' For My Dearie" from "Brigadoon" and Clarkson sang it in a lovely lyric soprano. If folks like Kara DioGuardi are allowed to do Broadway, why not Clarkson?

Her love for Ron Swanson is the reason she wants to be on the show so badly, haha.

She'd be a great age-appropriate Annie Oakley.
She's sing the hell out of Angel in THE RINK, but I don't see her playing an Italian Jersey girl.

I have always liked Kelly Clarkson. Love her music also. I would like to see her do something original on stage.
Also, I own "From Justin to Kelly".

I love her as a pop star, so it would be interesting what sort of thing she'd want to do, if she were to take to the theatre stage. I heard her say recently that she arranges her tours so that she is never singing two shows in a row, because she knows she needs to give her voice a rest. On the other hand, I think that's because of the way she sings her own songs on tour, and the knowledge that her shows are all about her, so she can't risk either an off day or a day off.
It's the first time I've seen the Brig O' Doon clip, and she shows a very pretty side to her voice there. I think in the right part, and a good director, the acting would be fine. She can put emotion into her own music, so I don't see that being an issue.
I don't have a problem with pop singers trying their hand at theatre, at any stage in their career, so long as they give it the proper respect. The fact she is expressing an interest now, when she doesn't need it, shows she does respect it.
