And the circle of entitlement remains unbroken.

On a plus side when I saw Bridesmaids a few weeks ago at the AMC at Lincoln Square an usher actually did stop a person from texting in the middle of the movie. I don't know how long the usher was there watching for texters, but it's nice to know that there is at least a small amount of policing going on.

It really is management's job to enforce these things. I dont mind a little comment here and there between people, but the conversations at full volume, texting and crap need to stop.

Its really unpleasant for me to have to police other people, get into arguments and then have my film going experience ruined due to the upset.

A great commercial! I would go out of my way to see a movie at a theater that did this. I had heard some theaters have cell phone blockers in them, meaning you can not send a text, receive or make a call. Basically, your phone is useless in the theater. If you have to check messages or make a call you have to leave the theater and go outside and join those who are having a cigarette.

That would explain why more theaters don't use them. I wonder why they are illegal? I went to a movie one afternoon and I was the only one in the theater. Then during the credits about four teenage kids came in. They had the entire theater and could have sat anywhere. So, they decided to sit right in front of me. They did not whisper, they talked. They were laughing out loud, throwing popcorn at each other, and just being rude. I eventually moved but I experience things like this all the time and I refuse to go to a movie on a Friday or Saturday night. I'll do a matinee or go during the week but the crowd is always way too rowdy and the theaters act like they really are not wild about doing anything about it.

Maybe they're illegal because people like Doctors need to be able to be reached 24/7 or parents who need to be able to be reached by a babysitter etc. I don't agree with blocking the signals in the theater I just wish people were taught some common fvcking courtesy.

eh... stuff like being a doctor still isn't an excuse... i'm pretty sure they have days off... and those are the days they should go to the movies or the theater... i used to be a 24 hour on call professional for a college campus but on my days off i refused to answer my phone because I wasn't working! and if i was on call i never went to places where I knew i had the potential of leaving if i had paid... why ruin my own night out?

the parent thing i really can't quite comment on since i don't have kids... but i will say that if you can't afford a babysitter that doesn't mean you should take your kids to the movies with you! i've been to many midnight horror r-rated movies where parents have taken their 2 year olds!!!

Because when your heart patient has a heart attack in the middle of your movie and needs Emergency Triple Bypass done by YOU they aren't going to wait for you to get out of the movie to call you.

the point of my posting was that if you have the day off... you have the day off... my parents have doctors that they go see when their doctor has a day off when it's an emergency... if you know you're going to be on call then don't go somewhere where you know you can be possibly be called away... go to a party... but don't go to the theater... take a day off... what's so wrong with that?!?! heart surgeons can't do that?!?!?

So don't go anywhere you may disturb those around you? That's a bit of bull. You don't know when you'll be on call for an emergency with one of your patients, you get a doctor who gives a "It's my day off, someone else can handle it." excuse, that is a bad doctor.

Bless The Drafthouse for ACTUALLY ENFORCING their no-texting policy.
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

You know, the world used to function fine before the days of cell phones and pagers. If someone is so important that they can't be offline for 2 hours, they can most certainly give the cinema's number to their advisor/broker/office/whoever-the-hell and be quietly escorted by an usher to receive the call in the event of an emergency. Isn't that what people used to do in the days when people didn't have cellphones?

As ticket prices soar - it becomes increasingly annoying to have the experience ruined by people who would rather txt or update their status/read fb instead of watching the movie
