Kinky Boots $450 for ORCH and FRONT MEZZ? WOW!

Posted: 12/7/13 at 7:51pmJust noticed that KB is charging $450 for center and side orchestra and front mezz. Wow-those are Book of Mormon prices. The same mezz seats I got for $89 with a code are now $450. They must be in demand.

That's not right...There are some premium seats at all theaters that are uber expensive.. but the bulk of the orchestra and front mezz seats are about $140-$170.
Go check the website...if you can go to the theater to get the tickets, there aren't even any fees. Same for Book of Mormon
I mean it's still expensive but not $400+

Posted: 12/7/13 at 8:33pm^ that's what I was thinking-those prices sound like premium seats. The shows I've been looking at for tickets averaged about $160-180 for full price.

Posted: 12/7/13 at 8:45pmI was looking at weekend prices this month and there were no normal priced tickets, only premium-orch seats (even those pretty far back) and front mezz were $450.

Well this month is this month. There WERE a LOT of regular priced tickets but they are sold out..so the only thing that are left are premium tickets, which you can pretty much find at all theaters. You can't expect to find regular priced seats for a hit show in the next few weeks...
You can't expect to get good seats during December - a holiday month and very popular time to go to the theater..for a huge hit of a show and expect to get good seats at a regular prices. Lots of people ordered the bulk of these seats months in advance. If you want to see the show in January or after, you can get regular priced seats. But you waited too late to get seats for KB for now. I mean you can wait on a cancellation line and take a chance...or wait until a better time.

If crap like Book of Mormon charges those prices why can't a good show like Kinky Boots (which is constantly sold out) do the same?
I personally feel that no show is worth US$450, but obviously some people are willing to pay those prices, there is a lot of wealthy people in this planet who can afford to spend that kind of money and feel completely guilt-free. At least they are supporting the arts?

Posted: 12/8/13 at 12:24amI'm opting for trying for January to cop a reasonably-priced for the Rylance plays and No Man's Land. I've already done Godot.

Most shows have premium pricing. However, most don't actually manage to sell many of their premium priced ticket inventory; Book of Mormon and Kinky Boots do (which is why their average ticket price is so high and their gross is consistently above 100% of technical potential).
At all shows, the price can come down for unused premium inventory (variable pricing, like the airlines), though that's much less likely at Kinky Boots & BOM. If you're willing to sit outside of prime locations, buy well in advance, or go at a time of less demand, you don't have to pay premium pricing.
Happily, for Kinky Boots specifically, the Hirschfeld Theater is an intimate house with no really bad locations -- the way back of orchestra and even balcony are fine there.
