Billy Porter has a vacation coming up.
It's from about Sept 4 to Sept 16
There are approximated dates.
Billy mentioned (on FB) that he has a 3 week vacation in September, though he didn't specify the weeks. If someone finds out the exact dates, please post. I want to see the show again and want to be sure he's in before I buy tickets.

Hey RozeeRossi, what are you comparing Ellyn's performance to? I'm just wondering if you've seen kinky boots several times or even enough to back up your judgement that she seemed "a little unsure". I've seen Ellyn in shows and concerts and she doesn't seem the type of person to ever be "unsure". That seems like a really odd thing to point out.
I saw the show that night too, and though I saw the show before, the person who I saw it with had not and she had no idea Ellyn was an understudy. I thought she nailed it and made it her own!
For the "big character choices" comment? MOST times, an understudy is directed to use the same general mannerisms as the person they cover. Don't mistake that for "not knowing what to do" or reverting back to choices someone else made.
Every actor up there is professional, No one covering her (or any role) is gonna be "unsure" or they wouldn't be allowed to do the show.
Did you see Annaleigh's other understudy by any chance?
I love seeing swings and understudies too - it's fun to see a different take on a character. Looking forward to see Stark's covers go on next week!
Has anyone seen Andy Kelso or John Jeffrey Martin perform the role of Charlie this week (or are you going to)?

Saw Kelso last night- Very good! Totally enjoyable.
I really hope no one's out the day of the flea market, because that is the day I am aiming to see the show. However, it sounds like there is a chance Billy might be out...
I'm hoping to see it on the Flea Market Sunday but am hesitant to buy a ticket until I'm sure Billy will be in.
I was also there last night and Andy was amazing. Comfortable as if he'd always been there doing that role.
I was at the matinee on 7/27, and there was an understudy for Lauren. I don't have my Playbill with me, but I believe Sandra Denise played Lauren. I thought she did a great job.
According to the ding to the website Tim Ware is now standby for Lola (although he also understudies several smaller roles).
And an additional bit of understudy news Courtney Wolfson is now the cover for Nicola replacing Caroline Bowman

I believe there will be 3 different performers filling in for Billy while he is gone.
Also saw Andy Kelso's first night as Charlie. Was disappointed I wouldn't get to see Stark again but Kelso was great. Though I think the orchestrations are in the key for Stark so Kelso's first note was always slightly off, after that, Kelso readjusted and sounded fantastic!

Heading to NYC in April 2014 for a theatre trip. Anyone know when Billy Porter's contract ends and if there's any chance he would stay on with the show?
I don't know any specifics about Porter's contract, but it wouldn't surprise me if he extended. He seems to really enjoy playing the role. And, more to the point, he's been quite candid about this being his first steady paycheck in a while.
Bumping this up - anyone else see the Charlie understudies this week?

This was my first time seeing Kinky Boots live, but I had seen several of the b words that you're apparently not allowed to mention on the boards prior.
Well like I said, I knew it was her debut so I might've been overanalyzing. Remember, on top of everything I said, she was fantastic- I just figured you might've wanted specifics on what *I* saw.
I'm aware of that, (in response of your reply about the big character choices comment) I just felt that she knew where she wanted to go but she didn't fully execute it. And hey, I could be wrong. You saw the show too. I was just saying what I saw and anyone's performance in this business is definitely subjective so. But I still hold to what I previously said that she wasn't settled into the role.
My aunt saw the matinee today and just texted me. Porter was out, and she said the understudy was superb.

Bumping this up. I'm curious how Ware is as well. Found this pic of him in costume: http://instagram.com/p/d52YRCLkge/
I have an audio of Ware as Lola, and he is good, not great though. His ‘Hold me in your heart’ leaves a lot to be desired- epically the last few lines. It’s from 9/4/13.
I have an audio of John Jeffrey Martin from his first performance and I really love him, it’s really hard to compare him to Stark because this was his first time on, but he’s still really great.
And I also have an audio of Ellyn on as Lauren and she is pretty great- in fact, she sounds a lot like Annaleigh.

Damn girl, that's a lot of audio. Did you record it all, or is there some site online I should know about?!
