With Clay Aiken in Spamalot, all of Broadway is singing a collective "There! Right! There!" -Me-
"Not Barker, Todd is the only person I've ever known who could imitate Katherine Hepburn...in print." -nmartin-

Why the heck hasn't mine come in the mail yet???
I guess it's 'cause I ordered it late in the pre-order stage?
Sure, why not. LoL

Just got my copy!
ETA: I just finished my first hearing of this, and I love it. The sound quality is so beautiful, and "Take Me to the World" is a gem. Thanks, bk.
And the next question, of course, is - is there a video version that might ever be released?

Sadly, I don't think a video can ever be released commercially. The only known print, a black and white 16mm kinescope, resides with the Museum of Broadcasting and Television. From everything I've been able to discern (and I have done a lot of discerning on this title, since it's a bit of an obsession with me) is that ABC recycled the the original video master and taped over it, which is something they did back then for reasons that, to be charitable, weren't too bright.
That and the fact that the John Collier estate doesn't seem keen to want this out, means that it's probably a lost cause.
I'm really thrilled everyone is so happy with the quality - the original recording, done inexpensively, has lots of weirdnesses, including the fact that Take Me To The World's singing was actually recorded "live" on set (everything else was prerecorded) because of the amount of dialogue - so what you're really hearing is the music being played back and the actors singing live, and then they mixed it as best they could. We worked really hard to get this to sound as good as it could, given those drawbacks. What I'm proudest of is that there was an anomaly on the original tape that Sondheim used to make his small batch of LPs years ago - a tape crimp that caused the loss of two words in When - I had an idea how to fix it, and my mastering guy did a GREAT job doing it and the two words have been restored on this CD.

I noticed that, bk! You can tell it's from a different (inferior) source... probably a VHS(!), but I'm still glad the words are there, rather than just a drop-out.
Thanks for the attention to detail.
I was hoping you'd thrown Ms. Carr into a VO booth for a few minutes and gotten her to rerecord those two words. I bet she would have done it, too!
Still the overall quality of this recording is outstanding, considering the source material and the age. You did yourself proud.
And I'm sad about the video. I understand the "what were they thinking" issue of taping over the master... It was common practice back then, sadly. But I'm sorry to hear that the John Collier estate isn't cooperating. That's a real shame, and I wonder why. Do they hate it??

Actually, a DVD I have of the show. I didn't think it was going to work, but when he sent it to me I actually had to ask him exactly where it was because I couldn't hear it after several listenings and I couldn't remember :)
I've never really understood what the prob is with the estate - I've only heard they are difficult and don't cooperate, although, that said, they finally did allow that staged reading thing in England.

Wow, it's an excellent recording! The quality is fantastic, and it's a complete thrill to listen to! Thank you very much!
Here's to hoping that many more unheard recordings get remastered in the future, and I will certainly be buying from Kritzerland again!

Arrgh! I still haven't received my copy yet!!! I find this more aggrivating right now than the lack of any official announcement of a Gypsy recording!
It better get here before Tuesday, so I can spend some time with it before I get the Happy Hunting CD on Tuesday (and the maybe, but probably not at this point, Ilya Darling CD).

Posted: 4/26/08 at 1:35amPlease be patient - we can't control the USPS and frequently the slowdowns occur in local branches. Remember - this wasn't even supposed to be shipped until early May, so look at it that way. :)

And GYPSY was officially announced this week! It is being recorded May 5 & 6. Release date TBA but prob in time for Tonys.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

frontrowcentre2, was there an official press release or website posting for Gypsy that I missed then? Nobody posted on the GypsyCastAlbumWatch thread... Just ends in some bickering by everyone who has been posting in that thread. And I'm sorry to be a little jaded, but someone posting "I called/e-mailed/talked to so-and-so and they said that it definately is happening" is not confirmation to me...
Anyway, I'll try to be a little more patient, bk, but it's hard when a lot of other people get their stuff first (I collect Marvel action figures too, so I know about weird distribution and the annoyance when everone finds something, and it takes weeks to get something for yourself).
